Your corporation had a strong year.

That’s great!

But have you thought about the corporate income tax that may be payable?

Too often, business owners wait until their T2 is prepared to find out what they owe.

By then, the financial year is already over.

Proactive corporate tax planning can help you:

✔ Estimate taxable income before year-end
✔ Understand potential corporate tax obligations
✔ Review available deductions and tax planning opportunities
✔ Plan for instalments and payment deadlines
✔ Make informed decisions before the year closes

And remember: your corporation’s tax payment deadline may come before its T2 filing deadline.

📩 Want a better idea of your corporation’s tax position before year-end? Let’s talk.

Business is busy.

Everyone’s working hard.

And your first thought might be:

“We need another employee.”

Maybe you do.

But before adding another salary to your payroll, take a closer look at how the work is getting done.

Are employees spending time on tasks that could be automated?

Are outdated processes slowing everyone down?

Is work being duplicated?

Could better scheduling or equipment improve productivity?

Sometimes hiring is absolutely the right decision.

Other times, improving how the business operates can create capacity without immediately increasing fixed costs.

📩 Growth isn’t always about adding more people. Sometimes it’s about making better use of the resources you already have.

You invoice a customer $10,000.

They pay you $10,500, including GST.

But here’s the important part:

That extra $500 isn’t business revenue.

It’s GST you’ve collected on behalf of the government.

When you file your GST return, the amount you remit is generally the GST collected minus eligible Input Tax Credits (ITCs), assuming you’re using the regular method.

That means some of the money sitting in your bank account may already be committed to CRA.

And if you spend it?

You could find yourself scrambling when your GST payment is due.

💡 One simple habit: regularly review your GST liability and plan for the amount you’ll need to remit.

📩 Not sure whether your bookkeeping is tracking GST correctly? We can help.

Your business made a profit this year.

That’s good news!

But how do you know if it’s enough?

The answer isn’t the same for every business.

A healthy profit needs to do more than simply show a positive number on your income statement.

Consider whether your business is generating enough to:

✔ Compensate you appropriately for your work
✔ Meet its financial obligations
✔ Replace equipment when needed
✔ Build financial reserves
✔ Reinvest in future growth
✔ Provide a reasonable return on the money and risk you’ve invested

A business can be profitable and still not be delivering the financial results its owner needs.

The real question is:

Is your business generating the return you need for the work and risk involved?

📩 Not sure how your profitability compares to what your business actually needs? Let’s look at the numbers.

Some accounting questions have straightforward answers.

Others don’t.

Sometimes there are several options, each with different financial, tax, and business implications.

That’s where experience makes a difference.

After more than 30 years working in accounting and finance, one thing I’ve learned is that the right answer isn’t always the most obvious one.

It’s about asking the right questions.

Understanding the circumstances.

Considering the options.

And helping the business owner make a decision they feel confident about.

Because good advice isn’t always about knowing the answer immediately.

Sometimes it’s about knowing what else needs to be considered.

📩 Have a business decision that isn’t as straightforward as it seems? Let’s talk it through.

The truck breaks down.

A major piece of equipment needs replacing.

An insurance renewal comes in higher than expected.

A customer takes longer than usual to pay.

Unexpected expenses are part of running a business.

But they don’t all have to become financial emergencies.

Good financial planning helps you:

✔ Identify upcoming expenses
✔ Build appropriate cash reserves
✔ Plan for equipment replacement
✔ Understand seasonal cash requirements
✔ Prepare for different financial scenarios

We help business owners look ahead so they’re better prepared when things don’t go exactly as planned.

📩 If every unexpected expense feels like a financial setback, let’s talk about building a better plan.

Every business has that product or service everyone seems to want.

But is it actually making you money?

A service can generate strong sales while quietly eating up your profit through:

✔ Labour costs
✔ Materials and supplies
✔ Travel time
✔ Rework or warranty issues
✔ Additional administrative time
✔ Overhead

Sometimes the service bringing in the most revenue isn’t the one contributing the most to your bottom line.

That’s why understanding profitability by product, service, or job can be so valuable.

You might discover that a smaller part of your business is actually generating your strongest returns.

📩 Do you know which part of your business is the most profitable?

10/13/2026

You make a $1,500 payment on your business loan.

So why doesn’t your Profit & Loss show a $1,500 expense?

Because loan payments generally have two parts:

✔ Principal — reduces the amount your business owes.
✔ Interest — is generally recorded as an expense.

The principal portion isn’t an operating expense because the original loan proceeds weren’t business income.

Both parts affect your bank balance, but they affect your financial statements differently.

And if the loan was used to purchase equipment, that asset has its own accounting treatment, including depreciation.

Understanding the difference helps explain why your profit and bank balance don’t always move together.

📩 Confused about how your business loans are showing up in your books? We can help.

Two businesses can have almost identical financial statements.

And still be in completely different situations.

One owner may be preparing to expand.

Another may be trying to work fewer hours.

One may want to aggressively pay down debt.

Another may need to preserve cash.

One may want to build the business for another 20 years.

Another may be thinking about selling in five.

That’s why I don’t believe good accounting advice comes from looking at the numbers alone.

You need to understand the person and the plan behind them.

The numbers give us information.

The conversation gives us context.

And you need both to give good advice.

📩 That’s why I’m always interested in where my clients want to go not just where they’ve been.
