There's a difference between financial activity and financial progress.

Activity looks like: reviewing statements, meeting with your accountant, contributing to your RRSP, writing the occasional cheque to a charity.

Progress looks like: knowing exactly where you're headed, why every decision was made, and how each piece connects to what you actually want your life to look like.

p.s. Most people have plenty of activity.

Progress requires a different kind of conversation. If you're ready for that conversation, let's have it.

People talk a lot about growing wealth. They talk less about what wealth is actually supposed to protect.

In my experience, the clients who are most at peace with their financial lives aren't the ones with the most assets.
They're the ones who know what their wealth is for.
Freedom. Family. Security. Impact.

Stay tuned as I'll be sharing three things your wealth should be protecting that most financial plans never address.

If any of it resonates, I'd love to hear from you.

Imagine sitting down to review your finances and realizing: you've been doing everything right, saving, building, growing, and still have no idea if it will be enough. Or if it will go where you intend.

That moment of uncertainty? It's one of the most common things I hear from clients who've worked incredibly hard for decades.

The answer isn't to save more. It's to plan better.

Clarity is available. Let's find it together.

Most people only start planning when something forces them to: a business sale, a health scare, a death in the family, a major windfall.

The best time to build one is before any of that happens. Because proactive planning opens doors that reactive planning can't.

Tax strategies that require years of lead time.
Charitable structures that need runway to maximize impact.
Succession plans that preserve both the business and the relationships.

The earlier the conversation, the better the outcome. If you've been putting it off, let's connect: https://loom.ly/X3BsAXo

It's hard to put almost a decade of emotions into a single post.

Since my dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, our family has experienced countless ups and downs. Through it all, one thing has never changed: his positivity. If you know my dad, you know he always looks forward, no matter what he's facing.

Seeing my mom and dad featured in the Alberta Cancer Foundation magazine is incredibly meaningful. Their story is one of resilience, love, and the amazing care they've received along the way.

We're so grateful for the healthcare teams in Alberta. Their skill, compassion, and determination have quite literally saved my dad's life.

I'm so proud of both of my parents. Dad, your strength inspires us every day. Mom, your love and unwavering support have carried our family through it all.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey with us. ❀️

Not all charitable giving works the same way, and the difference matters more than most people realize.

β†’ A direct donation is simple, but it doesn't always produce the best outcome for your family or your favourite cause.

β†’ A donor-advised fund lets you give strategically, timing your donations for maximum tax impact while supporting causes over time.

β†’ A charitable remainder trust can generate lifetime income while ultimately supporting the organizations you care about.

β†’ A private foundation gives you long-term control and family involvement in your giving.

These aren't complicated. They just require someone who knows how to use them. Let's talk about which one fits your situation best.

Most estate planning conversations happen too late.
Not because people don't care. Because the topic feels heavy, distant, or like something to handle "eventually."

But here's what actually happens when families wait: assets go where they weren't intended, preventable taxes get paid, and relationships get strained by decisions that were never discussed.

The families who avoid all of that aren't luckier. They're earlier.

If you've been putting off the estate conversation, I'd love to help you start it. Let's connect: https://loom.ly/X3BsAXo

A financial plan isn't a document. It's a set of answers to questions most people have never been asked.

What does retirement actually look like for you, not just financially, but as a life?
How do you want wealth to move through your family?
What causes do you want your success to support?
What happens to your business, your farm, your estate if something changes suddenly?

These aren't philosophical questions. They're the foundation of every decision that follows.

If your plan doesn't answer them, let's change that.
I'd love to chat with you: https://loom.ly/X3BsAXo

The financial industry talks a lot about risk tolerance.
Not enough about value alignment.

Risk tolerance is a number on a questionnaire.
Value alignment is knowing what your money is actually for, and making sure every decision reflects that.

When those two things work together, the plan doesn't just perform. It holds.
Through market swings. Through life changes. Through the moments when doubt creeps in and you wonder if any of it is worth it.

That's the kind of planning that lasts. If that resonates, I'd love to connect: https://loom.ly/X3BsAXo

Last week, I had the chance to take part in MNP's Summer Classic baseball tournament alongside an incredible group of lawyers, accountants, and financial advisors from around Red Deer.

We played through sunshine, rain, and five hours of ball games, and somehow the Bad News Bears came away with the championship! βšΎπŸ†

More than anything, it was a great reminder of how fortunate we are to have such a collaborative professional community here in Central Alberta. Building relationships, sharing a few laughs, and cheering each other on outside of the office is something pretty special.

A big thank you to MNP for putting on another fantastic event. Looking forward to doing it again next year!
