Have you hugged your accountant lately? A recent news article included accountants among a list of top 10 professionals LEAST likely to be psychopaths. However, at tax time, we accountants can get pretty stressed! If distance (or weirdness!) prevent you from hugging your accountant, the best alternative, and most effective equivalent, is to have all your tax paperwork organized and complete, and if at all possible, EARLY! This gesture will give your accountant a warm and fuzzy feeling, and they will love you, with or without a hug!
The following items are most commonly needed for typical 2014 personal tax returns:
2013 assessment notices for you and your spouse; T4s, T4As, T3s, T5s, T4RSP slips (for RRSP withdrawals), and other T-Slips such as OAS or EI slips; Medical, dental, prescription receipts; Charitable donation receipts; RRSP contribution receipts; T2202A Slip (Tuition); Transit passes; Child care receipts; Children's fitness and children's arts receipts; Union or Professional dues; Student loan interest receipts; Self employment and/or Rental Income details; plus any other information you intuitively think might be relevant.
Show your accountant you love them by trying your best to compile your information as completely and early as possible. Happy accountants help you pay less tax!
