We wanted to pass along a quick heads-up about major tipping compliance shifts hitting the industry. I've noticed many operators aren't aware that if a business handles electronic tips or pools incorrectly, the CRA can reclassify them - which can trigger messy, unexpected back-taxes for CPP and EI. To help navigate this, Restaurants Canada is hosting a webinar on Thursday, June 25 at 2:00 PM ET to break down the 2026 Tipping Compliance Updates.

They’re going to explain how to properly use "Tip Committees" to protect their business from tax liabilities while keeping up with federal and provincial rules.

📢 The new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit is coming soon!

June 5th: If entitled, you can expect an additional one-time payment equal to 50% of your 2025/26 annual GST/HST credit. This payment may still be called GST/HST credit in your account.

July 3rd: There will be a 25% increase to the quarterly payments, and as of July, the payments will be referred to as Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.

As of May 29th, all drop box locations will be permanently closed.

If you’ve been using a drop box to send us your tax returns, payments, or other documents, there are other options available to you:

➡️Online services, like your CRA account
➡️Electronic payments, like our My Payment service
➡️Regular mail
➡️In-person at Canada Post, or your financial institution
