Trying to perfectly time the market can feel tempting, especially when headlines are constantly changing and markets feel unpredictable. But history has shown that long-term success usually comes from consistency, patience, and having a thoughtful plan, not reacting emotionally to short-term market swings.

Missing just a few of the market’s strongest days can have a significant impact on long-term returns. That is why staying invested and focused on your bigger goals matters so much.

We help clients build personalized plans designed around their lives, retirement goals, tax strategies, and comfort with risk. During uncertain times, having a plan and someone to guide you through it can make all the difference.

Our goal is to help bring clarity, confidence, and perspective so you can feel more comfortable focusing on life, not daily market noise.

Uncertainty can feel uncomfortable, especially when headlines change daily and markets react quickly. But successful investing has never been about predicting every twist and turn. It’s about having a thoughtful plan, staying disciplined, and focusing on the long term.

Some of the best financial decisions are often the calmest ones.

Volatility is normal. Emotions are temporary. A well-built plan is designed to weather both.

Besides you have better things to do with your time. Let us do the planning for you.

Happy Mother's Day!

To all the moms, grandmas, stepmoms, bonus moms, and mother figures.

Thank you.

Thank you for the rides, the reassurance, the sleepless nights, the pep talks, the packed lunches, the sacrifices no one saw, and the love that never seemed to run out.

So much of what we become is because someone believed in us first.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the women who hold families together through every season of life. The ones who give so much of themselves while quietly hoping everyone else is okay.

We hope you feel celebrated this weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I’ve had a few conversations lately about family cottages and they’re never just about the cottage.

They’re about memories. Summers. Kids growing up.
And sometimes… very different expectations.

One child wants to keep it.
Another isn’t so sure.
Someone else could use the money.
And suddenly, something that felt simple doesn’t feel simple at all.

What I usually say is this.

Start with an honest conversation. Not a plan. Not a decision. Just have a conversation.

Because not everyone wants the responsibility that comes with a cottage. The costs, the upkeep, the time. And that’s okay.

And “fair” doesn’t always mean “equal.”
Sometimes the fairest outcome is selling, even if that’s the hardest one emotionally.

If you are thinking about this for your own family, don’t wait too long to talk about it. These decisions are so much easier when they are made together, instead of in a rush later on.

At the end of the day, it’s not really about the property.

It’s about protecting the relationships around it.

Supporting your adult child is a beautiful thing. Whether it’s for a home, education, or a fresh start.

But once money is given, it can become shared, especially in a relationship. And that may not be what you intended.

A few simple steps can help keep that gift protected:
• Keep it in your child’s name only
• Avoid mixing it with joint accounts
• Put your intentions in writing
• Think carefully about how it’s used for a home

With divorce rates higher than we care to admit It’s not about expecting the worst.

It’s about making sure your support stays with your child, no matter what life brings.

If you’re in your highest earning years, this is your window. Not just to earn more, but to keep more of what you earn.

A few simple moves can make a big difference:

• Maximize your RRSP. This is often your biggest tax lever when income is high
• Don’t overlook your TFSA. Tax-free growth becomes more powerful over time
• Split income where possible. Especially with a spouse or family members
• Use tax-efficient investments in non-registered accounts
• Plan bonuses, commissions, or stock options strategically
• Stay on top of deductions. There are often more than you think

It’s not about complicated strategies. It’s about being intentional while your income is at its peak.

Small decisions now can mean a lot more flexibility later.

This is exactly the kind of planning that makes a real difference over time.

It’s usually not the big things.

It’s the small ones that get missed.

A few we see often:
• unclaimed medical expenses or donations
• unused carry-forwards (RRSP room, losses, credits)
• missed home office or self-employment deductions
• withdrawals without considering how they’re taxed
• not planning around income timing or bonuses

Missing one or more of these can add up over time

A quick check-in now can make a real difference later.

Tax season has a way of sneaking up.

For most people, the filing deadline is April 30.
If you’re self-employed, you have until June 15 to file.

Just one important note. If you owe anything, it’s still due by April 30.

A small step now can save you stress later.

This Saturday, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour. Not because it changes everything overnight, but because it’s a moment to reflect, reset, and reconnect.

We spend so much time planning for the future. Our goals, our families, our finances. Earth Hour is a gentle reminder that the future we’re planning for depends on the world we’re living in, too.

You don’t have to do anything big.

Maybe it’s lighting a candle, sitting a little longer at the table, or stepping outside for some fresh air.

Just one hour. A small shift. A meaningful pause.
