Decommissioning the NOA in tax software service

Effective February 9, 2026, notices of assessment and reassessment will be available for viewing exclusively in the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) portals right after the CRA receives and processes the tax return. If you do not have a CRA account or you set your preferences to letter mail, your notice of assessment and/or reassessment will be sent to the mailing address on file.

Also, as a result of this change, Form T183, Information Return for Electronic Filing of an Individual's Income Tax and Benefit Return has been revised to remove the second checkbox in Part E, which previously allowed electronic filers to receive a one-time notice of assessment or reassessment through the EFILE-certified tax software.

Another one of many changes

Option in tax software to allow you to view a notice of assessment (NOA) or notice of reassessment (NOR) after filing a tax return.

Reminder - Be ready to vote in the federal election by checking the appropriate boxes on your tax return.

Elections Canada encourages tax preparers to ask their clients for their consent to check the boxes in the Elections Canada section of their income tax and benefit return. By consenting, eligible clients will make sure they are registered at their current address and ready to vote when a federal election is called. Sharing their name, address, and date of birth with Elections Canada is the easiest way for Canadian citizens to make sure their voter information stays up to date.

Young Canadians aged 14 to 17 who file a tax return can also consent to sharing their information with Elections Canada for the Register of Future Electors. Once eligible future electors turn 18, their information will be added to the National Register of Electors.

Accurate lists of electors allow us to better serve electors, and they also contribute to electoral integrity. Elections Canada thanks you for your continued support during this tax season.

To learn more about the Elections Canada consent questions, visit elections.ca. You can also call Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868 or 1-800-361-8935 (TTY).

Business mail is going online

Get ready for online mail for business

Starting in spring 2025, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will transition to online mail as the default method of delivering most business correspondence, reflecting the CRA's ongoing commitment to enhancing service delivery. This means your business clients will stop receiving paper mail and will start receiving most of their notices and other correspondence through the CRA's secure online portal, My Business Account.

This change applies to all:

1 New business number and program account registrations
2 Existing businesses registered for My Business Account
3 Businesses who have a representative that accesses the CRA's services on their behalf through Represent a Client

Businesses can prepare for this change by signing in to or registering for My Business Account and ensuring their account includes an up-to-date email address. Adding an email address allows the CRA to send notifications when important changes are made to your account and to alert you when there is new mail to view in My Business Account. Clients can have up to three email addresses on file for each program account, and can also add other authorized individuals.

If business clients are not ready to make the switch to online mail, they will need to make a request to activate paper mail using form RC681 Request to Activate Paper Mail for Business to the CRA or through My Business Account starting May 2025.

For more details, you and your clients can go to canada.ca/cra-business-mail-online.

All current and future clients,

With the year coming to a close and the holiday season approaching, we want to keep you informed about a few important updates regarding our office and team. Please take a moment to review the below details and reach out with any questions. As always, we are here to help.

Our office will be closed from December 20 through January 1, reopening on January 2 for a much needed Christmas break. While emails and messages will be monitored occasionally during this time, responses may be delayed. To avoid disruptions, we encourage you to reach out with anything you need before the holiday break.

We also have some exciting news to share. Tori will be going on maternity leave beginning in February, but rest assured, bookkeeping services will continue seamlessly. We’re also thrilled to welcome Erin, who will be assisting us during tax season. You may hear from her via our [email protected] email address—she’s here to help ensure everything runs smoothly.

Updated Contact Information
To simplify communication, we now have only three official email addresses:
• Shawna: [email protected]
• Tori: [email protected]
• Admin/Erin: [email protected]
Please update your records to reflect these changes.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and trust as SB Books continues to grow and evolve. Over the past year, we’ve implemented changes designed to serve you better, and we’re grateful for your continued support.

If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out before the holiday break.

Warm regards,
Shawna and Tori
