Did you know that according to WWF Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007? A couple million people turned out lights across the city to signal their support for climate action. This symbolic action lit up a global movement. Well, FUN FACT, our very own Toronto became the first city to announce it was joining Earth Hour 2008, and by 2009, Earth Hour had become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment — a title it holds to this day!!

Join us tonight at 8:30pm local time by switching off and doing something positive for the planet!

On the heels of the World Economic Forum’s Global Risk Report, UN Trade and Development ( ) released its January Global Trade update. Global trade had a record year in 2025, growing 7% to exceed $35 trillion for the first time.

Looking ahead, 2026 brings both opportunities and challenges. UNCTAD identifies 10 trends shaping the future of trade, including:

✅ Slowing global growth and rising tariffs
✅ Supply chain diversification and nearshoring
✅ Surge in services and digital trade
✅ South–South trade expansion
✅ Climate-driven trade policies and critical mineral dynamics

Trade-restricting measures are on the rise as governments use trade policies to pursue domestic goals. Technical regulations and sanitary standards now affect about two-thirds of global trade.

📌Our take: Trade is becoming more fragmented and digitally driven. Businesses that invest in resilience, adaptability, and strategies to bring supply chains closer to key markets will be best positioned to thrive. Companies that immerse themselves in the markets they serve will be the most successful. Global trade isn’t disappearing—it’s evolving to reflect shifting geopolitical and geo-economic realities.

Did you know that “Jingle Bells” wasn’t originally written for Christmas? Composer James Pierpont created it in 1857 under the title “One Horse Open Sleigh” as a Thanksgiving song. It quickly gained popularity during the holiday season, and just two years later, it was renamed “Jingle Bells,” becoming the classic Christmas favorite we know today. Now that’s a FUN FACT!

FUN FACT! Did you know that Rosh Hashanah marks the Jewish new year, but is not the only one? In fact, there are 3 others according to the Mishnah, the first written collection of the Jewish oral traditions that are known as the Oral Torah. The first of Nisan, the springtime month when Passover falls, is the beginning of the year, according to the Book of Exodus. Jewish tradition also marks Tu Bishvat (the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat) as the new year for trees, and finally, the first of Elul (usually in August) as the new year for the tithing of animals. Now that’s a FUN FACT!
