Happy Book Launch Day to !

I first got to know Simone when I heard him on a podcast talking about his first book “The Good Enough Job”. I knew I needed to interview him on (which you can listen to on episode 383) and he was one of my favourite guests.

He was so supportive of my own writing journey when I was working on my first book “Everything but Money”, and now here we are and I can’t wait to dive into his second book “How to Not Know”.

As I’m about to turn 40 and embark on a new chapter with a lot of unknowns, this book couldn’t have come at a better time in my life.

If you’re in a similar situation and trying to figure out how to manage so much uncertainty, make sure to grab a copy of his new book out today!

Happy Canadian Independent Bookstore Day!

Last year (when I filmed this), I visited a bunch of indie bookstores in Toronto to sign copies of my book EVERYTHING BUT MONEY, and this year I might just do the same… in addition to treating myself to a few more books too.

After 3 years of working on my first book (Year 1 writing, Year 2 editing, Year 3 promoting), and about 10 years of almost exclusively reading non-fiction (self-help, finance, memoirs), this year I wanted to fall in love with reading for pleasure again.

I also wanted to really focus on spending my money on things that bring me joy that don’t cost a ton of money… like books.

My goal is to read 52 books this year, just to see if I can do it. So far, I’m on track with 19 books and counting!

So if you’ve got no plans today, consider supporting an indie bookstore and buy yourself a book (it doesn’t have to be mine, but also my book is pretty awesome).

Emails like this never get old!

My first book EVERYTHING BUT MONEY came out 1 year ago, but I still get DMs and emails all the time from readers telling me they bought the book, read the book, gifted the book, or even introduced it to their book club.

And let me tell you, as an author, there’s no better feeling than getting these messages.

Now the question is, I were to write a second one, what should it be about? 🤔

It’s tax season you guys, and before you file, make sure you know about the deadlines, important tax credits, and changes to your CRA account before you file this year!

I am so incredibly honored to be a finalist for the Confluence Awards. But I’ll be honest: the nomination caught me at an interesting time.

Last year was the “summit” I’ve been climbing toward for over a decade. I published my first book (📕 Everything but Money), finished a 5-year journey to become a financial planner, and saw my business reach new heights.

But when you finally reach that summit, then what?

What happens when you’ve reached a lot of your goals (or all of them), but still have decades in front of you?

If you’ve reached a major milestone recently, did you feel this way too? What does the “other side” of a decade-long journey look like?

Let’s talk in the comments. I’d love to hear from my fellow millennials (and beyond) who are navigating the “What’s Next?” too.

It’s International Women’s Day, and I’m here to remind you that you’re not the problem…the system is.

And for anyone who still blames women for these gaps, lest I remind you that men have had centuries to build wealth whereas women have only had a few generations to play catch up.

Pulling up some Canadian🇨🇦 stats…

🗳️Women only got the right to vote in 1918.
đź’Ľ Women were forced to quit certain jobs if they got married up until the 1950s (marriage bars).
🏦 Women couldn’t open up a bank account without their husband’s signature until 1964, and couldn’t apply for credit until 1977.

Nevertheless, women have been working hard to achieve financial equity. In Canada🇨🇦…

đź’°Women are the primary earners in 32% of households.
đź’°Women make up 60% of university graduates.
đź’° 70% percent of couples with children are dual-income.
đź’°The labour force participation rate for women reached 85% in 2024.

This is something I talk about in Chapter 7 of my book EVERYTHING BUT MONEY. You’re not bad with money. You’re just trying to fit into a system that wasn’t built for you. One of the many barriers you may face on your journey towards financial freedom.

What’s your word of the year?

Let me share a little tradition some of my friends and I started doing last year.

With so much pressure to set new goals and fix your entire life at the beginning of the New Year, while simultaneously seeing everyone’s social media posts about how much awesome stuff they accomplished the previous year, the start of January can oftentimes feel heavy.

So how can you turn things around and put the focus back on you?

It starts with one word.

After the ball dropped last year and my friends and I rang in 2025 at a New Year’s Eve/Book Release party I hosted, we all went around the room and shared one word each of us wanted to define our next 12 months.

My word was joy. I knew that 2025 would be very work-centric with my book EVERYTHING BUT MONEY coming out and its accompanying media and book tour. I also wanted to prepare myself for the inevitable post-publication depression that was waiting for me after my book was no longer “new” anymore.

So I chose joy as my word to remind me that work, success, money, and accolades are never the point. Joy is the point. Finding joy in the little and big things in life. That’s what makes life worth living, and it’s important to never lose sight of that.

For 2026, my word is less. I did the most in 2025 (book release, 7-city book tour, 55 podcast episodes, 22 YouTube videos, countless speaking gigs, QAFP exam, you get the picture) and if I’m honest, my body and mind are still recovering.

This year, I want more space. In my mind and my calendar. I also want to be more intentional and efficient with my time, and only do things I know will not only bring value to me but others too.

So what’s your word? Take a moment and think about it. And if you want a little ritual to go with it, find a candle, light it, say the word to yourself, then blow it out. I know this may sound silly, but that’s what my friends and I did this year, and it added a little magic to it.
