Couple’s in 🍁, quick question: **who’s listed on your TFSA?**
Most people open a TFSA, contribute regularly, and assume their family will automatically be taken care of.
But there’s one important detail many people overlook: **the difference between a successor holder and a beneficiary.**
A **successor holder** allows your spouse or common-law partner to take over the TFSA itself. The account continues under their name, and it can remain tax-free.
A **beneficiary** receives the value of the TFSA after your passing. The account itself does not continue, and there may be additional steps involved depending on the situation.
Neither option is “wrong”, it depends on who you’re leaving your TFSA to and what you want to happen.
Swipe through this example to understand the difference and make sure your accounts match your family’s needs.
