Earth Day is a reminder that every decision we make creates a ripple, including how we invest.
This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” speaks directly to something I talk about often with clients: your money has influence.
More Canadians are starting to recognize that.
According to Mackenzie Investments’ 2026 Earth Day Study (conducted with Pollara Strategic Insights), 37% of Canadian investors now hold sustainable investments, which is up from 33% in 2025, and nearly double 2023 levels.
But here’s where it gets interesting:
63% of Canadians see the energy transition as a major long-term investment opportunity (Mackenzie Investments, 2026 Earth Day Study).
61% believe it will create a better future for the next generation (Mackenzie Investments, 2026).
Yet 45% say they don’t feel informed enough to start investing in it (Mackenzie Investments, 2026).
And 42% still question whether sustainable investments deliver strong returns (Mackenzie Investments, 2026).
That gap between interest and understanding is exactly where good advice matters.
Sustainable investing isn’t about sacrificing performance. It’s about expanding how we evaluate opportunity and risk by looking beyond financials to include environmental impact, corporate governance, and social responsibility (often referred to as ESG factors).
But it also requires discernment.
Not everything labeled “sustainable” truly is.
Greenwashing is real, and it’s something both regulators and investment firms continue to flag as a growing concern (Equitable; CSA guidance on ESG disclosure).
That’s why my role isn’t just to present options, but to help you understand what you actually own, how it aligns with your values, and how it fits into your long-term financial plan.
Real impact comes from intentional decisions and not just good intentions.
If you’ve been curious about aligning your investments with your values, this is a great time to start that conversation.
Because every financial decision creates a ripple and those ripples shape the future.
