Your CRA My Account is NOT safe with just a password! πŸ”

NEW CRA UPDATE – August 2026:
CRA now REQUIRES a backup MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication). If you don't add it, you will get locked out during tax season.

What to do:
Go to CRA My Account > Manage Multi-Factor > Add Backup > Choose Authenticator App or Passcode Grid.

We help 20+ clients a week unlock their CRA accounts. Don't wait until you need your Notice of Assessment urgently.

Need help setting it up? We do it for free for our clients.

Comment "CRA" and I'll send you the step-by-step guide.

Attention Incorporated Business Owners in BC 🚨

If you incorporated, CRA expects 3 things from you – even if you made $0:

T2 Corporation Tax Return – due 6 months after year-end
Annual GST/HST Return – if registered
Payroll Remittances – by the 15th if you pay yourself salary
Miss one = $500+ penalty + interest at 7%.

At PC TAX SOLUTIONS, we take this off your plate. Monthly bookkeeping, payroll, T2, and financial statements – all in one place.

We are not the cheapest. We are the one who answers the phone.

Book your corp year-end review this month.

Tax season doesn’t have to be panic mode πŸ˜…
I went from β€œI’ll do it later” to β€œdone in 30 min” once I got my docs ready and used a checklist.

If you’re still staring at your T4s, here’s your nudge:

Gather slips + receipts
Check credits you qualify for
File before the deadline
You’ve got this πŸ’ͺ Drop a πŸ”₯ if you’re filing this week, and share one tip that saved you time!

The CRA is locking more Canadians out of their own accounts.

Here's what's changing, and what to do about it before it costs you:

1. Mandatory MFA is coming to CRA My Account

You'll need more than a username and password to log in. A second verification step (usually a code to your phone) will be required.

Miss setting this up, and your first login attempt could stall out right when you need access most, mid-filing, mid-review, or responding to a deadline.

2. Paper mail is disappearing

For years, a letter would eventually land at your door even if you weren't checking CRA My Account. That fallback is going away for a growing number of filers.

Notices, assessments, and correspondence are moving online-only.

3. The real risk isn't the technology, it's the habit

I've seen it happen: a notice sits unopened in an online inbox because someone was still waiting for the paper copy. By the time they check, a deadline's passed and interest has accrued.

What to do now, before it's urgent:

β†’ Log into CRA My Account and set up MFA today
β†’ Confirm your notification preferences (paper vs. online)
β†’ Update your phone number/email so you don't get locked out
β†’ If someone else manages your CRA mail for you, make sure they have their own proper access

The CRA isn't sending fewer notices. They're just sending them somewhere you might not be checking.

Have you logged into your CRA account in the last few months? If not, this is your reminder.

The GST/HST credit has a new name, and most Canadians will see more money starting in July.

If you've been getting the GST/HST credit, you're now getting the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) instead. Same program, same eligibility rules, same calculation, just a new name and a bigger cheque.

Here's what changed:

A 25% increase is secured for five years, from 2026 to 2031.

A one-time top-up, worth 50% of your 2025–26 credit, was issued on June 5. The first boosted quarterly payment was sent on July 3.

It remains tax-free and will continue to be automatic when you file your return, with no separate application required.

For the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit period, based on your 2025 tax return, you could get up to:

$679 if you're a single individual
$890 if you're married or common-law
$234 for each eligible child under 19

The catch: these amounts are based on your 2025 tax return. If you haven't filed yet, or if your income situation changed, you could be missing out on payments you're entitled to.

⚠️ Also watch out for the "$2,000 federal bonus" going around on social media. The CRA has confirmed that one's fake.

Not sure where you stand or whether you're getting everything you qualify for? That's exactly what we help clients figure out. Send us a message, and we'll take a look.
