It's been approx. a month since Oracle announced massive layoffs affecting 30,000 employees followed by another lay off by Amazon. Overnight, incredibly talented people received news that forced them to navigate an unpredictable world. As the layoff headlines inundate every channel we interact with, it becomes increasingly impossible to ignore the reality: these layoffs aren't an anomaly, but a pattern. Just in 2025 alone, according to consulting firm Challenger, Gray, & Christmas, more than a million cuts were made to the workforce, the highest level since 2020.
While the tech industry is historically known for sitting at the intersection of innovation and influence, it is now also infamous due to its mass cuts. As is no surprise, it's an industry that is cyclical in nature, with hiring slowing as capital tightens, and roles getting cut when growth expectations reset. Simply put, it's an industry that is too volatile to put your faith and future in.
I joined this industry knowingly working in a recession-resilient industry such as the insurance industry would help us mitigate the uncertainty of the market. In fact, it's because of the benefits of working in the insurance industry that we founded Experior, a company that more than 17,000 agents call home. Furthermore, while the insurance industry isn't perfect, it offers many advantages that AI simply can't replace; at the heart of this industry is the ability to build strong relationships, something a machine will never beat a human at.
Additionally, during times of economic uncertainty - as we're seeing now - people don't pause protecting their families, health, income or assets, even during a recession. For those who've been affected, my heart goes out to you. Know that we are here to help you, and that there's hope.
