Any Canadian who has ceased working for a 14-day period due to COVID-19 is eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.
That includes wage earners, contract workers, or self-employed individuals; those who've had to stay home without pay to self-isolate or care for loved ones; and anyone else who hasn't been permanently laid off but has stopped receiving paycheques.

Lots of work has been done to protect Canadian homeowners, but the support provided is deferring payments and adding interest to the mortgage.

Homeowners are not getting a free ride; they still are required to maintain their current amortization and may face increased payments after the deferral period as a result.

Skipping a mortgage payment is not like erasing it; it still needs to be paid to the bank, just at a later time.

I am not sure what a renter is going to do, this needs to be dealt with quickly, and with both the landlord and the tenant's issues in mind.
