22/07/2025

Switzerland is often seen as a safe haven for wealth, but that sense of stability can be misleading when life takes a turn.

Many of our clients plan to remain here long term, while others are already preparing for the next chapter, whether that’s returning to the UK, relocating elsewhere in Europe, or retiring abroad.

Michael Spencer, Senior Financial Adviser at deVere Switzerland, brings a unique perspective to this journey.

Each morning starts with a full market review, and then the focus is on applying these insights to the very different lives of each of his clients.

At deVere, we work at the intersection of local expertise and international understanding.

If you’re living here now but thinking ahead to what’s next, Michael is available for a conversation that can help you bring clarity to your position.

As Michael often reminds clients, the biggest risks are usually the ones you haven’t even thought to ask about, which is why regular reviews make all the difference.

According to recent reports from the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO), the country's economic growth has remained stagnant in the fourth quarter of 2023 despite hopes for a recovery. This challenging international situation has had a major impact on manufacturing and exports, causing stagnation in the country's economic performance.

"While economic performance in 2022 was boosted by the recovery from the pandemic, at the same time, it was held back by the tense energy situation in Europe and a gloomy international environment," according to SECO.

President of the central bank Thomas Jordan further lowered growth forecasts for 2024, saying that Switzerland would need to be "lucky" to register any growth this year due to the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic. He said: "The coronavirus pandemic is still far from over and its consequences are still being felt."

What does this mean for investors? How can they protect their wealth during these uncertain times? These are just some of the questions that our team of expert financial advisors at deVere Group can help answer.

We understand that these are challenging times for everyone. However, experts believe that if Switzerland can weather this difficult period then there is potential for a stronger recovery as soon as later this year. With hopes of returning to normalcy after a tumultuous 2020-21 period, it is hoped that Switzerland will experience an increase in consumer spending which could help kickstart its economy once again.

As President Jordan states, "It's essential that both businesses and consumers continue to be cautious with their money so that they can weather these tough financial times together."

At deVere Group, we offer personalized financial advice and solutions tailored to each client's unique circumstances. Our experienced advisors can help you make informed decisions about your investments and create a robust financial plan that aligns with your long-term goals.

No economic growth was reported in Switzerland in Q4 last year, according to a government statement on Tuesday, due to a “challenging international situation” impacting manufacturing and exports.
