Today, the Chief of Mission of IOM Cameroon received the promoter of the Yaoundé Cultural Marathon, Mr. Afowiri Fondzenyuy, in an audience.

​A proud member of the Cameroonian Diaspora based in the United States of America, Mr. Afowiri is featured in the Guinness World Records (2026 edition) as the fastest marathon runner in a traditional Toghu outfit (4h 24m 2s in Tokyo, March 2024).

Today, his audience with IOM Cameroon highlights the powerful impact of the diaspora in driving cultural diplomacy and community development through sports.

Like Moïse, many young people seeking new opportunities abroad, left Cameroon hoping to build a future through professional football.

His journey is a reminder of the risks migrants can face and the importance of ensuring that those who decide to return home can do so safely, voluntarily and with dignity.

A dream of professional football brought Moïse to Georgia from Cameroon.

Believing he was one step closer to a football career, he instead found himself stranded in a foreign country after the opportunity he had been promised never materialized.
