Recent remarks from Germany’s Finance Minister calling for targeted taxation of large international technology companies highlight the ongoing debate around how the digital economy should be taxed across borders: https://atr.org/german-finance-minister-calls-for-discriminatory-taxes-on-large-u-s-tech-firms/

As digital business models continue to evolve, policymakers across Europe are increasingly reassessing how value is created and taxed in highly internationalised and platform-driven sectors.

These discussions underline the importance of clear and well-structured cross-border arrangements, particularly for groups operating in multiple jurisdictions, where profit allocation and compliance obligations must remain aligned with evolving tax policy.

At Steuerberaterin Renate Schnürch, we support clients in navigating complex international tax frameworks and adapting to changing regulatory environments: https://kanzlei-schnuerch.de/

Rising petrol prices across Europe have driven a sharp increase in electric vehicle sales, with March 2026 marking record demand across key markets: reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/surging-petrol-prices-drive-record-ev-sales-europe-march-2026-04-13/

While often viewed as a sustainability trend, this shift also has clear tax and business implications. Companies are increasingly reassessing fleet structures, employee mobility schemes, and vehicle procurement strategies in response to changing cost pressures.

For international businesses operating in Germany, this can impact VAT treatment, leasing arrangements, and benefit-in-kind taxation for company cars.

Steuerberaterin Renate Schnürch advises businesses on navigating these developments and aligning their tax approach with evolving mobility trends: https://kanzlei-schnuerch.de/

Germany’s Finance Minister has outlined a package of economic reforms aimed at strengthening growth and improving competitiveness: https://www.reuters.com/business/german-finance-minister-sets-out-sweeping-reform-plans-boost-growth-2026-03-25/

While not tax-specific in nature, reforms of this scale often shape future fiscal policy and regulatory conditions.

For international businesses, this can influence investment planning and cross-border structures over time.

Germany’s Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt) has officially abolished the annual MURI reporting requirement under Section 50c EStG, following a general decree published in April 2026: https://www.bzst.de/SharedDocs/Kurzmeldungen/EN/2026_Short_News/20260410_muri_report.html

Foreign creditors holding withholding tax exemption certificates are no longer required to submit annual reports on accrued capital income. The previous filing deadline of 31st May of the following calendar year has therefore been removed with immediate effect for all applicable existing exemption certificates.

An exception remains for capital income from collective custody securities held via Clearstream sub-accounts.

This development represents a notable reduction in corporate tax compliance obligations and reflects a broader trend towards simplifying administrative reporting requirements in Germany.

Earlier this year, while attending IR Global's ‘On the Road’ conference in Singapore, I visited Pulau Ubin, one of the city-state’s last remaining natural rainforest areas.

Known globally as a highly developed and modern economy, Singapore continues to preserve parts of its natural environment, offering a reminder of the importance of balancing progress with conservation.

Experiences like this reinforce our commitment to initiatives such as Treesistance, which works to protect primary rainforest in the Amazon through Indigenous-led programmes.

Supporting forest conservation, both locally and globally, remains an important part of our broader perspective.

The Posted Workers Directive (PWD) requires companies to notify authorities before employees begin work in another EU or EEA country.

These notifications are a central element of cross-border compliance, ensuring that posted workers meet host-country requirements on working hours, minimum wages, leave entitlements, and health and safety standards. Submissions must typically be made in advance via national online portals and include details on the employer, employee, duration, and location of the assignment.

While the EU provides a general framework, national rules differ significantly. For example, Germany requires notification via its Minimum Wage Reporting Portal, while Austria and Switzerland apply their own systems and timelines.

Failure to comply can lead to substantial fines, increased inspections, and potential restrictions on business activity.

Steuerberaterin Renate Schnürch advises on managing PWD obligations across jurisdictions and maintaining compliant cross-border structures. Discover how we can support you: https://kanzlei-schnuerch.de/
