As of April 6th, 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax came into force – and if you're self-employed or earn income from property above £50,000 gross, it applies to you.

Instead of a single annual tax return, you'll submit quarterly digital updates to HMRC, with thresholds dropping further in 2027 and 2028.

For most people, the compliance piece is straightforward with the right software. The more interesting question is what quarterly reporting means for how you plan; when tax becomes a year-round conversation, so does everything connected to it: how you take income, how you invest, what you hold and when.

A huge congratulations to our very own Andrew Scouller DipFA, who ran the London Marathon at the end of April - one of over 20,000 runners selected from a ballot of more than 1.1 million people.

26.2 miles in warmer-than-expected conditions, fuelled by good preparation and what sounds like an incredible atmosphere from start to finish. We're incredibly proud of him.

Andrew is raising funds for Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team, a voluntary organisation whose members risk their lives to help others in some of Scotland's most challenging terrain. If you'd like to support him, the link is below.
