CASE STUDY | Arndale Linkbridge Industrial Cleaning🐝🫧

Project Overview👇
Vertical Access Ltd was appointed to carry out specialist cleaning works on the Arndale Link Bridge, a high-traffic connection between Manchester Arndale and Selfridges in the heart of the city.

The project involved cleaning the bridge’s external elements, including glass panels, steelwork, seals, vents and associated components, restoring the appearance of a key city centre asset.

The Challenge 👀
Working in one of Manchester’s busiest pedestrian routes plus an active Metrolink network meant precision planning was essential. The team had to coordinate access, public protection and tram network requirements, including planned possessions and overhead line isolations, to ensure the works could be completed safely.

To avoid impacting commuters, businesses and tram operations, the project was delivered across a series of night shifts, keeping public interruption to a minimum.

Our Approach 🤝
Our access strategy combined multiple specialist techniques:

1️⃣ IRATA industrial rope access
2️⃣ Van-mounted MEWP access
3️⃣ PASMA tower scaffolding

Using the DOFF cleaning system alongside manual methods, our team removed any excess dirt and contamination while protecting the integrity of the bridge structure.

Every shift was supported by detailed planning, equipment checks, permits and close coordination with all stakeholders.

Delivery & Results 🎖️
The works were completed safely and efficiently across multiple night shifts, with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.

The result? A cleaner, refreshed Link Bridge ready to continue serving thousands of people travelling through Manchester every day.

Cleaning has never looked so good…

Clear nights🌃
Clearer tracks✅🚈

We've been working closely with our friends at CML, helping manage vegetation as part of their rail maintenance works along the Woodhead Line between Sheffield and Manchester.

Over the past few weeks, our Geo team has supported inspection and tree felling works through the Oxspring cutting into Pen*stone, working throughout the night to keep disruption to a minimum while delivering maximum results.

A fantastic effort from everyone involved.

Great work team! 👏

Running (Walking) the Railways 2026 – Completed ✅💛

Last Friday, our team of VAthletes proudly completed the second leg of this year's Running the Railways challenge.

While the extreme heat meant the running element was replaced with walking following medical advice, the team still turned out in force to support Alex Rigby and be part of an incredible day for a fantastic cause.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved, especially Alex, who successfully completed the 24-hour challenge. Together, more than 300 participants completed 794 individual 5Ks with an incredible 3,970km in total!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraising page. Your support is making a real difference. Seeing the passion, commitment, and turnout on the day made it clear that Centre 56 is supported by an amazing community.

There's still time to donate! Our fundraising page remains open, and every contribution, no matter the size, helps support victims of domestic abuse.

Let's finish strong with one final push. 💛

10 DAYS TO GO!!
🚂🏃💛

With just over a week left until our VAthletes take on Running the Railways, we're entering the final stretch and making one last push to raise funds for the incredible Centre 56.

We know times are tough, and many people are feeling the pressure of rising costs. That's why we're simply asking for a small donation. Even £2 can make a real difference.

These days, £2 might not even buy a decent coffee, but it can help provide vital support to families across Merseyside who are facing incredibly difficult circumstances.

Your donation could help fund:

💛 Specialist childcare for children aged 2–12
☕ Coffee mornings for parents and carers
🚌 Fun day trips and activities for children
🌈 Essential items including clothes, food, toiletries, and period products through the Rainbow Room
🥰 Ongoing care, understanding, and support for families when they need it most

Wish us luck as we take on the challenge next week! 🚂🏃

If you're in a position to support this fantastic cause, please consider making a donation through our fundraising page:

Every donation, no matter the size, helps Centre 56 continue its amazing work supporting local families.

Thank you for your support. 💛🖤

VA making headlines again! This time for our inspection work on Clywedog🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Happy to see our important inspection works on Clywedog, (once again in partnership with Severn Trent and CPC) being featured in the Daily Post.

These inspections come as an important routine safety check across several dams across the North Wales area. Check out our latest works in the article below👇
