Our independent catering client had successfully expanded into corporate events and private functions, with bookings continuing to grow throughout the year. Whilst turnover was increasing, it became increasingly difficult to understand which types of events were delivering the strongest returns once food costs, staffing, transport, and preparation time were taken into account. Seasonal demand also made cash flow more challenging to manage.
By introducing monthly management reporting and rolling cash flow forecasting, we helped the business gain clearer insight into the profitability of each event type. This revealed that recurring corporate catering contracts delivered more consistent margins than some high-profile events, whilst also identifying opportunities to strengthen deposit arrangements and purchasing schedules. With improved financial visibility, the business refined its pricing, strengthened cash flow, and gained greater confidence to support its continued growth.
