PJ McIlroy & Son

PJ McIlroy & Son P.J. McIlroy & Son Insurance & Investment are Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Auth would have wanted.

PJ McIlroy started his business career, on a spur of the moment decision in late 1959, when he moved from ownership of a family grocery business to establishing an auctioneering business selling livestock and furniture. Some years later PJ purchased new premises on Ann Street in Ballycastle and "PJ Mcilroy & Son" was formed. The introduction of his sons, Sean, Eamon and Leo, saw the business take

on a more focused approach with Sean initially and then with Leo developing the estate agency and property rental division while Eamon concentrated on the Insurance and financial services department. The business has evolved to the professional business model we now see today. Although the company is still run by the three brothers, they would strongly acknowledge the loyalty, commitment and dedication of their staff and the massive contribution they have made through the years building PJ Mcilroy & Son into the successful business it is today. Without our clients though, we would not be here today and as our father once said
"The secret of business success is hard work, dedication to one's own business and treating every person alike." We hope to continue to treat all our customers with the respect and integrity with which P.J.

Ballycastle has officially been named the best place to live in Northern Ireland, taking the regional title in The Sunday Times Best Places to Live Guide for 2026.

Crowned this year’s winner, the Co Antrim town fought off strong competition from Dundrum and Ormeau in south Belfast to take home the title. Known for its stunning coastal views, lively pub scene and the centuries-old Ould Lammas Fair, Ballycastle continues to stand out as one of the most distinctive places to live along the north coast.

Set against one of the most striking backdrops on the Causeway Coast, the town brings together natural beauty and a strong sense of community. From gatherings at the local library to the work of Solas, which provides accessible mental health support, Ballycastle offers more than just a location. It is a place that feels connected.

According to The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide, Ballycastle is the “beating heart” of the north coast. With its expansive sandy beaches and the much-loved Morton Fish and Chip shop, the town continues to draw crowds looking to cool off and enjoy the seaside during the summer months.

The high street continues to thrive with independent businesses, while the town’s pubs create an atmosphere that keeps both locals and visitors coming back. Just a short walk away, the wide sandy beach attracts dog walkers, swimmers and those simply taking in the fresh coastal air.

Food is a big part of Ballycastle’s appeal. At the centre of it is Ursa Minor, a standout café widely regarded as one of the best bakeries on these islands. Alongside it, a strong network of local producers, including greengrocers, butchers, Broughgammon Farm Shop, North Coast Smokehouse and the Naturally North Coast and Glens Sunday Market, continues to showcase the very best of local produce.

This is not the first time Ballycastle has received the accolade, having also been named the best place to live in Northern Ireland in 2022.

It is this blend of landscape, people and independent spirit that makes Ballycastle not just a great place to visit, but one of the best places to call home.
