Simple doesn't mean Easy 👀

When it comes to getting your financial life in order, there's several simple rules we can stick to which sound simple but provide results.

They aren't rocket science.

And yet people question why they should work with a financial planner/adviser?

We like to think of it as something like hiring in a PT

We all know how to get fit or have a six pack.

1. Eat well and exercise more.
2. If you want to lose weight, you need to live in a calorie deficit... and the results will take care of themselves over time.
And yet everyone isn't fit with abs...

Finances are the same.

1. Live within your means
2. Automatically put money away regularly (preferably into a low cost passive investment)

Then wait many years for the results to take care of themselves.

Simple. But not easy....

We all know how to get fit, yet don't have the discipline to go and do it ourselves. We don't make the time to do it.

Quite often, that's exactly the same with your finances.

Let it be our problem. We’ll make sure things get done, and then you can get on with your life.

Six of the winners of prizes of between £25,000 - 100,000 only had balances of less than £1,000 in Premium Bonds

The prize pot has been growing as interest rates have increased, which has given customers a better chance of winning.

However, if you don't win, you don't earn any interest. So while it is a good option with a potential to win big, don't put all your eggs in that basket as there are bank accounts out there which can pay decent levels of interest now.

And don't forget, no matter how much interest you get in a bank, it won't beat inflation long term, so cash shouldn't be your only option.

Premium Bonds holders may have noticed their chances of winning a top prize has dramatically increased over the past 12 months.

INTERVIEWER: ‘Would you be interested in getting more information about how the fund
or the product is performing?’

PARTICIPANT: ‘No.’

INTERVIEWER: ‘Is there a reason why you’re not interested?’

PARTICIPANT: “Yes, ‘cause I’m not interested in financial things. I, as I say, I have no
confidence with the way that everything’s performed and I’ve lost the capital on
investments over the years, so that’s one of the reasons. I don’t have any confidence in
the financial services industry. That’s the truth of it. And it’s my money that I’ve put in and
if I could have taken it all out, I’d rather have it all out under the bed than with [pension
provider]. And if I could take it tax free, I would have done.’

This is what we're up against as a financial services industry.

Your pension and your house are likely your two most valuable assets (unless you own a business). And yet most people we talk to don't have a clue what their pension(s) are invested in.

Too often, we speak to 50 - 60 year olds who are in the middle of a phase in their default lifestyle fund when the pension automatically de-risks the investment. We believe this is almost always not appropriate any more - but they never knew.
