Following the announcement of the Budget today, we summarise the key points that may affect you or your business as follows:

• Personal Tax and National Insurance Thresholds to remain frozen

• Income Tax Rates for Savings and Property Income to increase by 2% for each tax band

• Dividend Tax on Basic and Higher Rate tax bands to increase by 2%

• National Insurance, VAT, and all Income Tax Bands (excluding the above mentioned) to remain the same

• National Minimum Wage to increase to £12.71 per hour for over 21-year-olds and £10.85 per hour for 18–20-year-olds

• 4.8% Increase in State Pensions

• Child Benefit cap for 2 children to be abolished

• A new Electric Vehicle Excise Duty is to come into force at a rate of 3p per mile for fully electric vehicles and 1.5p per mile for Hybrids

• Mansion Tax introduced for properties valued over £2m

• The Tax-free ISA Allowance will be capped for Cash ISA’s at £12,00 per year, with an additional £8,000 per year being allowed to be put into a Stocks & Shares ISA (to bring a total of £20,000 per year ISA maximum). This does not affect anyone over 65 years old.

The above are not all the changes announced today but are the key elements that may affect you or your business.

We would also like to emphasize that no change has been announced relating to the VAT Threshold, as we know this has been a concern for many small business owners. This remains at £90,000.

If you could pay £240 to save £6,500 in fines and interest from HMRC, would you do it?

Of course you would! And this is exactly what we did for a client.

For the client, it was a massive headache and financial stress they just did not need.

But we knew exactly what to do - submit all the outstanding tax returns and then appeal the penalties. 2 months later HMRC have removed all penalties and interest, saving them almost £6,500.

Our fee for this? £200 + VAT (£240).

Helping clients is not always about providing advice and submitting accounts, it is also knowing what to do when things go wrong.

If you aren't getting this level of service from your accountant then maybe it is time for a change...

Company Directors - Verify your identity with Companies House through us, we are an authorised ACSP with Companies House and are charging just £60 + VAT!

You may have received correspondence recently from Companies House regarding the verification of Directors and PSC’s as a mandatory requirement from 18th November 2025.

As a Director and/or PSC of a UK Ltd company, you will be legally required to verify your identity and provide Companies House with a unique identity code to confirm that you have been verified – this must be done before the next Confirmation Statement due date for the company.

We do this through a link that allows you to upload your identity documents and take a quick selfie, which then completes various checks to verify your identity. Once completed, we then finalise your details with Companies House as a verified individual and issue you a Companies House Personal Code.

This process takes just a few minutes of your time and ensures you are being fully compliant with Companies House.

If you are interested in this service, then please let me know and I can send over a unique link to start the process.

Unfortunately, we do not offer this service to individuals that are not UK Residents, if this applies to you then you will need to go to Companies House direct.

Reminder to all - reduced opening hours whilst Kieran is on holiday from 03/08 to 19/08

Please note that I (Kieran) am away on Holiday, out of the country, from 3rd August until the 19th August.

The office and telephone line will be open on the 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th of August 10am until 4pm, where a member of staff can take a message for you. If you call after these times then you can only leave a voicemail, which will not be responded to until I am back in the office. If you do not leave a voicemail then no one will be able to respond to you, in this case, an email is preferred.

Whilst I am away, I will not be completing any work apart from urgent payroll and I will also only respond to emails that are urgent. I will be checking my emails every couple of days so please do not expect a same day response on any emails whilst I am on holiday.

As such, if you have any work that needs to be, or you would like, completed before the end of August (as the first week I am back I will be going through all my missed emails) please supply this information by the 18th July at the latest.

Any records/information provided to me after the 18th July may not be completed before I go on holiday.

Payroll for July is as normal, as such, if you run a payroll please provide me with the information as usual.

All work that has already been provided to me will be completed before the end of July, therefore, if you are waiting on any accounts/tax returns they will be completed within the next few weeks.

Sometimes it's just not worth the hassle...

Every year we offer our Ltd company clients the choice of filing their own Confirmation Statement, and pay Companies House £34, or we can file it and we charge £60 + VAT.

A small profit for what is usually a quick an easy job.

I don't mind either way - it is completely up to the client and usually its 50/50 of who ends up doing it.

But sometimes it's not just a 'tick everything and submit job' - one of my clients quickly realised this when they tried submitting it themselves and came up with error after error, wasting their time and causing them unneeded stress, and then eventually giving up and asking us to do it.

For us, it still was quick and easy - all changes made and submitted within 10 minutes, but for the client it was a nightmare.

When looking at this, we can replace 'Confirmation Statement' with almost any other service we provide - yes, you can submit your own Accounts, Payroll, VAT Returns, Bookkeeping, Management Accounts, Cash Flow Forecasts etc. but what is the actual cost to you?

Stress, potential fines for non-compliance and wasted time you could be using to grow your business.

An easy way to ensure compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD), and having accurate data for your books, is to follow this simple setup designed for Resellers and Ecommerce Businesses.

A2X integrates with most sales platforms (more than I can list on this picture) and will automatically import the sales, selling fees, VAT rates, postage and more, into Xero for more accurate data.

If you are VAT Registered then a setup similar to this is a legal requirement to be compliant with HMRC (see Digital Links with Making Tax Digital).
