A lonly cake after absolutely amazing day of collaboration, support and community.

Today was 😍 I can't remember last time I chatted to so many happy and supportive people.
I am not going to list you all, not because I can't remember, but because you will fall asleep 🀣🀣🀣 the list has no end!

Thank you Kate for being brave enough to take on a chalange of working with me 😘

Today was the day when we cleaned the bottom half (only) of the window and invited people to have a look what we are doing at The Village Office. Our new co working space in the heart of Overton, Hampshire.

Place is not finished, everyone had to use their imagination, but it didn't stop us all having a laugh while supporting an amazing Macmillan charity.

We haven't added it all up, but whatever the amount - it will be life changing! Thank you so much everyone for donations, laughter and eating the cake 🀣 🀣 🀣

Window painted again, works cary on behind the scenes - can't wait to share the space with you all when it's finished!

The Village Office ( my new adventure in Overton, Hampshire) will always going to be:

🍰 Supportive

This Friday me and amazing Kate from The Content Consultancy chose to support Macmillan Cancer Support

🍰 Real

We are inviting you for a coffee and cake while we are not ready!!!

But this is how the reality of most businesses are - we are a bit not ready, a bit not perfect, a bit behind... but we are all human beings and we have to start somewhere 😍

🍰 Welcoming

Despite the setbacks on the way we promise you a good cake, chat and a laugh 😍

Come and join us this Friday 25 September, between 10 am and 1 pm for a cake if nothing else πŸ˜‚ But we both will be there sharing our vision, hopes and dreams for the place.

Please bring your suggestions and ideas, as you will see - there is plenty of time for us to implement them πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

And don't forget that we will be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support on the morning 😍

I hope to see you Friday if you are local

Find an accountant who drives your dream car!

I am yet to meet a grown up person who's dream is to drive a VW UP 🀣🀣🀣🀣

And does that mean Piece of Cake Accounting doesn't stand a chance?

This was a post I saw a few weeks ago from another account. They obviously where very proud of the car they drive. And in a way I agree with them - you need to find an accountant you trust, you can talk openly with and your values aline. But driving the same car... Is a step too far in my opinion πŸ˜‰

What about reframing it to - find an accountant who

🍰 doesn't judge your dreams and instead supports you achieving them.

🍰 has time for you and talks the language you understand.

🍰 provides you with current numbers and helps you plan for the sustainable future.

This way I can keep my beloved little red car and you can buy your dream car, I can keep my paddleboarding and you can go on your dream holidays, I can do the spreadsheets and you can build the business you love!

-------------------

If your business is growing and you feel you have outgrown your current systems, if you struggle to find time to keep up to date with your finances and if numbers is not your thing - I am looking to welcome one new client to my team from November.

Message me to find out more πŸ˜‰

I will take simplicity over complicated things every day!

Life or business doesn't need to be hard, challenging or impossible to be worth living.

And while we are creating new improvements to our everyday tasks, more and more people are stressed and overwhelmed... Apparently because with the improvements our expectations grow...

The same with the bakes. I was wondering around Edinburgh a few weeks ago and I saw filled cookies at Β£5.50 each. Even my little one said - that looks like too much...

And all I could think about was these very simple, autumn fitting biscuits we used to bake years ago. Direct translation from Lithuanian would be little scarfs 🀣🀣🀣

But let's call them apple biscuits:

Slice two apples (the home grown, sour once are best) into thick wedges. Sprinkle with some sugar and cinnamon. Lots of cinnamon 🀣

For the dough you will need:
90g butter
100g sour cream
100g sugar
And about 300g all purpose flour.

Crumble the butter with flour and sugar. Like you would for the scones. When it's a sand looking mixture, add sourcream and mix it all together with your hands ( that's how you never over mix) and let it stay in a fridge for an hour. It should be soft when done and keeping it in a fridge will help to roll it out, cut into the squares and wrap apples.

I am hoping that the picture below is enough to show you how to wrap them up 🀣🀣🀣

Sprinkle with more sugar and cinnamon and bake at 170 degrees oven for about 15 min.

But as always, I don't know your oven, whatch them and actually smell them and you will know when they are done 😍

Enjoy the weekend when it comes and if you bake anything, share it in comments. I am always looking for new simple but tasty recipes.

Oh and if you would like to try them come over on the 25th to a Mcmillan coffee morning at my brand new office in Overton Hampshire 😍
10am to later, 25 High Street Overton, message me if you are coming so I know to look out for you!
But equally feel free to just turn up , eat cake, drink coffee and supper an amazing charity.

Who knew there is such an overwhelming choice of white paint 🀣🀣🀣

I am carrying on with sharing my journey of setting up (what I thought very easy) a new business.

And what I didn't we xpect to have to do so early on the journey was - make thousands of decisions!

This is just a reminder that running your own business is not easy and can be overwhelming. Some days you feel like you are winning and other days you want nothing more than closing down before it even started properly trading.

And all you need to know - it's absolutely fine and normal. Happens to us all! You are not on your own.

And if I could suggest one thing, it would be finding a local businesses owners group who can support you, because it's fun, but not always easy.

-----------

If you are local. The Village Office Overton is opening on the 25th September for a cake and coffee supporting Macmilan Coffee Morning.

Come and say hello, have a laugh and some cake!

The book that changed my business plan!

I know - it has nothing to do with business, but at the same time - it's all about the business.

If you struggle to answer the question - why are you doing this? Why do you even have the business? This is a book for you!

It's a book about different things we want and value at different times of our lifes.

Life can become busy and we can be doing things just because that's what we (or others) do.

What if instead we would do what makes us happy 😍

I am an accountant, but I don't do tax returns.

What does it say about me?

September always feels like the start of the last chapter for the year. Time to explore what makes this year extraordinary 😍

I just spent a week at the amazing Fringe Festival and not a single picture to share - because a while ago I decided that I don't want to live my life through the phone camera...

I found out why I love music events most - it's the emotions of people play. I don't really mind what they play 😊 I just love watching people playing and not caring about anything else around them...

The only reason I went to more than one comedy show was because people next to me. As English is my second language, I do struggle to understand comedy. But I don't need to, because what makes me laugh is the person next to me laughing. There is nothing better than sitting next to someone who is laughing their head off, especially when I have no idea what is so funny 🀣 🀣 🀣

I realised that my love for food is very simple! I don't need expensive restaurants - all I need is simple, tasty food prepared from local ingredients and made with love in an independent cafe or restaurant.

I also loved so many amazing charity shops in Edinburgh. Because I don't really care how much I paid for my clothes, what I do care about is how they make me feel.
I am a strong believer that you can wear whatever you want, as long as you feel good.

Red is my comfort colour 😍

My favourite audiobooks are those read by the author.

I love water and mountains.

I am also the Piece of Cake Accountant, I love all of my clients as long as I am making a difference to their lives!
And this year is already one of the best:
🍰 Holidays taken
🍰 Dream cars bought
🍰 Mortgages repaid

Not by me, but by my clients - and that's why I love what I do!

Who said accountants are boring?

I believe accountants are life changers!

I am so excited for the last few months of the year - new office, new clients and even more little steps to changing someone else life!

I hope you all are as excited as I am!

Challenge accepted!

Make a cheesecake in a student's kitchen... Anyone else tried whipping cream with a fork? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Or baking a cheesecake with no tin?

It turned out really nice, so here is a recipe:

For the base crumble as many Scottish shortbread biscuits as you have energy for. πŸ˜‚ No fancy tools, just your hands, fork, bottom of the glass... Use your imagination!
Add chopped pistachios till it looks like it's enough.
Melt some butter and mix in till it resembles wet sand.
Bake in whatever container you have for 10 min at 170 degrees.

For the filling, mix 3 tubs of cream cheese with some sugar, finely chopped lemon zest from 3 πŸ‹, hand squeeze juice of the same three lemons and three eggs. Add some vanilla and roughly 2/3 of a cup of sour cream. Mix it all well with a fork or a spoon ( or both, just in case) but don't overdo it πŸ˜‚

We also found a jar of pistachio cream in a shop, so added blobs of that into the mixture.

Add on top of the pre baked base and bake for an hour and a half at 160 degrees. Let it cool completely and top up with some whipped cream and more pistachios.

So the only thing we where able to measure accurately was time. We had to trust the oven for the temperature and just wing it with everything else πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The result was very good, everyone was happy, but I don't think it's for me. I rather bake in my own kitchen 😍

Oh and I definitely prefer shortbread base.

The lesson here is - just have fun and it all will work out 😍

Here is the crumble for your apples (last week's post)

I must admit that crumble is an odd one out. Normally with baking you have to follow the recipe and best to not make changes, especially if you are sharing the cake with someone later πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Here situation is different and normally I just check the cupboard and use what I have. A random combination of oats, flour, nuts, sugar and butter/oil of some sort and it works! Mostly 🀣🀣🀣

I also don't really way anything, do it with my hand and when it feels right - good to go. This way we normally end up with a lot of crumble, but that's ok as I freeze it and then get a bag of apples, put them in a tin, top up with some crumble from the freezer - bake and enjoy!

But this time I did measure thing, just to be able to write a recipe:
50g of flour
50g of outs
59 g of chopped almonds
50g of sugar
100g of cold butter

I crumbled it all with my hands - best method to relax and meditate!

Baked for about 20 min at 170 degrees.

Enjoy! And share your best crumble recipe 😍
