Great to see the Digital Accounting team attending the FreeAgent Annual Roadshow last week - focused on helping our clients get ready for the biggest tax change in years.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is coming. From 6 April 2026, if you're a sole trader or landlord earning over £50,000, you’ll need to:

➡Keep digital records
➡Use HMRC-recognised software
➡Submit updates every quarter

We’re already working behind the scenes to make this transition simple, clear, and stress-free for our clients.

We’ve also created a dedicated Making Tax Digital for Income Tax guide on our website - your one-stop resource for everything you need to know ➡ https://digitalaccountingltd.com/blog/

If you have any questions, get in touch and prepare for MTD with an experienced accounting firm. Based in Bicester, we support small and medium businesses across the UK with expert accounting services.

One of the most common questions we receive at Digital Accounting is: “If I work from a café for a few hours, can I claim my coffee as a business expense?”☕
With so many sole traders and freelancers now working flexibly- splitting time between home, co-working spaces and coffee shops - it’s a very relevant question.

The answer, however, isn’t as simple as yes or no. Under UK tax rules, expenses must be incurred “wholly and exclusively” for business purposes to be deductible. Food and drink are often treated as having a personal element, which means your regular coffee while working locally is usually not allowable.

It can also vary depending on the situation:
• Are you working alone?
• Meeting a client?
• Travelling for business?
• Paying to hire a formal meeting space?

Each scenario can affect how HMRC treats the expense.

To give you full clarity, we’ve written a detailed blog article explaining how the rules apply and what you need to know to stay compliant.

Anna Nikolovska is getting prepped for the next event at Heyford Park Business Network, where she has recently taken on the role of Community Connector.

This growing networking group is a fantastic opportunity for small business owners around Bicester to connect, collaborate and build relationships in a relaxed and supportive environment. The network meets on the last Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Baton in Heyford Park, with each session featuring informal networking and a practical guest speaker.

On Tuesday, 24 February, Anna will be delivering a clear and practical talk on Making Tax Digital (MTD), explaining what’s changing, who it affects, and how sole traders and landlords can prepare for quarterly reporting requirements.

Visitors are welcome (£10 entry). If you’re a local business owner looking to grow your network and gain clarity on MTD, this is a great event to attend.

When the caricature trend meets accountants… this happens😄
Who said accountants can’t have a little fun?

Anna- The Boss. The Founder. The Driving Force.
The one with the vision, the passion and the “let’s do this properly” energy💥Digital Accounting wouldn’t exist without her commitment, integrity and that unstoppable entrepreneurial spark (and yes… probably a strong coffee in hand ☕).

Simona- Our Accounting Manager & VAT Queen 👑With us since the very beginning! Simona leads the office with infectious enthusiasm and precision. VAT? CIS? Company accounts? She handles them like a pro. If there’s a tricky VAT question, we already know who’s smiling confidently.

Alina- Practice Administrator Extraordinaire! The organisational mastermind behind the scenes. If everything runs smoothly, emails are answered, and deadlines are met- that’s Alina working her magic. Calm, efficient and always one step ahead.

Sylvia- Junior Accountant with eagle eyes. Personal tax returns, bookkeeping, VAT returns- processed with accuracy and care. Sylvia’s attention to detail is next level, and nothing escapes her spreadsheets.

We may look like cartoons here… but when it comes to your finances, we’re seriously good at what we do 😉

Which caricature is your favourite? 😄
