HMRC Update: Key Summer Changes for 2026 ☀️

Significant updates to the UK tax system are here, impacting small businesses, sole traders, and landlords:

🔹 MTD for ITSA: The first mandatory quarterly update for those with qualifying income over £50,000 is due by 7 August 2026.

🔹 Tax Year Basis: All unincorporated businesses are now taxed strictly on profits arising within the tax year.

🔹 Compliance & Scams: HMRC is increasing checks on creative tax reliefs and warns of "Bills of Exchange" scams targeting tax debts.

Filing your 2025/26 tax return early is the best way to clear the decks and prepare for these changes.

Companies House has announced that its upcoming transparency reforms have been pushed back to April 2028 to give businesses more time to prepare.

Key changes include:

Mandatory Profit & Loss filing for small companies and micro-entities (with an option to keep it private from the public register).

The end of web and paper filing—all accounts must be submitted via commercial software.

The removal of abridged accounts.
