📈 Preparing for a new opportunity in the accounting world? It's natural to feel a sense of trepidation as you embark on this journey, but with the right foundation, you can boost your confidence and leave a lasting impression on potential employers. Here are some invaluable tips to help you shine in your next accountant interview.

🤝 Practice Role-Play Interviews: One of the most effective ways to sharpen your interview skills is by engaging in role-play sessions with someone playing the role of the interviewer. This realistic approach enables you to fine-tune your responses, identify areas that may need improvement, and build your confidence.

🌟 Boost Your Confidence: Confidence is the cornerstone of a successful interview. In the lead-up to the big day, take time to visualize yourself succeeding. Employ calming breathing techniques and recite positive affirmations to foster a constructive mindset that will enable you to approach the interview with poise and self-assuredness.

💼 Confident Body Language: During the interview, remember the power of non-verbal communication. Maintain a confident posture by sitting back with a straight back, and employing appropriate gestures to enhance your verbal communication. Minimize fidgeting and avoid unnecessary hair or face touching to exude professionalism.

👂 Active Listening: Demonstrating active listening is a powerful way to build rapport during an interview. Nod when the interviewer speaks and allow them to finish speaking before providing your response. A focus on building a connection is often more impactful than attempting to impress with every statement.

🗨️ Authentic Conversations: Approach the interview as a genuine conversation aimed at connecting with the interviewer. Honesty and transparency convey genuine confidence. Trying to be someone you're not is easily noticeable and may hinder the rapport-building process.

Great Recruitment Starts Before the Vacancy

The best recruitment partnerships don’t begin when a job goes live.

They begin with understanding.

Understanding:

✔ the company culture

✔ the leadership team

✔ the challenges behind the hire

✔ what success looks like in the role

When recruiters truly understand a business, they can do more than provide candidates — they can provide market insight, challenge assumptions, and help shape better hiring decisions.

Strong partnerships create stronger hires.

Your Hiring Process Could Be Losing Your Best Candidates

A candidate can be excited about your opportunity on Monday…

…and gone by Friday.

Why?

Slow feedback.

Too many interview stages.

Unclear expectations.

Poor communication.

Top candidates are assessing businesses just as much as businesses assess them.

A strong hiring process shows how your business operates.

Fast decisions don’t mean rushed decisions.

They mean respecting good talent.

53% of CFOs now own digital transformation in their organisation. 42% are responsible for capital allocation. 40% oversee risk management.

The CFO role hasn't just expanded. It has fundamentally changed in nature.

Wolters Kluwer's 2026 Future Ready CFO Report — a survey of 1,672 finance leaders — describes it clearly: the CFO has moved from scorekeeper to performance orchestrator.

And for UK finance leaders, the ambition is even higher than the global average:

· 63% of UK CFOs identify finance transformation as a strategic priority — vs 52% globally

· 90% want to co-lead digital transformation initiatives

· 93% place greater emphasis on continuous learning than their global peers

But here's the tension nobody talks about enough.

The orchestrator role only works if the finance function around you has evolved at the same pace.

27% of CFOs cite resistance to change as their biggest barrier. Only 46% report healthy tension in their leadership teams. Just 40% say they have sufficient debate.

Ambition without the right team is aspiration — not transformation.

This week's newsletter explores what the shift really demands, where most finance functions are falling short, and five questions every CFO should be asking right now.
