🚨 Employers: mandatory payrolling of Benefits in Kind is coming.

From 6 April 2027, Phase 1 of mandatory payrolling will apply to:

πŸš— Company cars
β›½ Car fuel
🚐 Vans
β›½ Van fuel
πŸ₯ Medical benefits

The key change?

Tax on these benefits will be collected through payroll in real time, rather than being dealt with later through the employee's tax code.

This means employers need to make sure their payroll software, processes and employee records are ready.

But payroll isn't the only consideration.

Employees should also be told about the changes. Some may see changes to their tax code or take-home pay, and some could temporarily have tax relating to previous and current benefits being collected at the same time.

Clear communication can prevent unnecessary confusion.

At Naseems Accountants, we provide professional payroll support to help employers manage changing requirements, including payroll processing, Benefits in Kind, auto enrolment and payroll compliance.

🚨 HMRC could automatically sign you up for Making Tax Digital.

From September 2026, HMRC will begin automatically signing up taxpayers who are required to use MTD for Income Tax for 2026/27 but haven't registered themselves.

HMRC says this will include taxpayers whose records show qualifying income of more than Β£50,000 in the 2024/25 tax year.

If you're automatically signed up, HMRC will contact you and ask you to complete a checking step to verify the information they hold about your business and property income.

⚠️ There's an important point to remember: HMRC's information is based on historical data, so it may not always reflect your current situation. For example, it could include a business that has already ceased trading.

Once you're signed up, you'll need compatible software, digital records and quarterly updates. Any overdue updates will need to be brought up to date.

At Naseems Accountants, we can help you understand whether MTD applies to you, check your position, set up digital bookkeeping, manage quarterly updates and keep your Self Assessment obligations on track.

Don't wait for HMRC to sign you up.

🚨 UK employers: employment law is changing, and waiting could be costly.

The Employment Rights Act 2025 is being introduced in stages throughout 2026 and 2027, bringing significant changes to employment rights and employer responsibilities.

Some reforms are already in force, including changes to:

βœ”οΈ Statutory Sick Pay
βœ”οΈ Paternity and parental leave
βœ”οΈ Bereaved partner's paternity leave
βœ”οΈ Whistleblowing protection

Further changes are expected around unfair dismissal, harassment, flexible working and zero-hours contracts.

For employers, this means it's time to review your policies, contracts, payroll processes and employee records rather than waiting for each change to take effect.

At Naseems Accountants, we help employers manage their payroll and workplace responsibilities, including Payroll, Auto Enrolment, employee records and ongoing business compliance support.

If you're unsure whether your payroll processes are ready for the latest employment law changes, we're here to help.

🚨 HMRC is starting to sign up taxpayers who haven't registered for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.

The first quarterly update deadline passed on 7 August 2026, with HMRC confirming that 436,000 taxpayers filed their first update.

However, more than 570,000 taxpayers had signed up by 12 August, compared with HMRC's previous estimate that around 864,000 taxpayers would need to register from April 2026.

From September, HMRC plans to sign up taxpayers who are required to use MTD but haven't registered themselves.

πŸ“Œ Currently: MTD applies to sole traders and landlords with more than Β£50,000 of qualifying income.

πŸ“Œ From April 2027: The threshold drops to Β£30,000.

If MTD applies to you, you'll need to keep digital records, use compatible software and submit quarterly updates.

And remember: MTD quarterly updates do not replace your Self Assessment tax return.

At Naseems Accountants, we can take the complexity out of MTD with support covering registration, digital bookkeeping, quarterly submissions and Self Assessment.

Don't wait until HMRC contacts you.

πŸ“ž Book your FREE 30-minute consultation today and let our MTD specialists check whether you're ready.
