We’re proud to be supporting Fairlight Primary & Nursery School Fairlight Primary & Nursery School for the third consecutive year by funding Numicon sets for children starting this September.

These resources will once again help new pupils develop their maths skills both in the classroom and at home, giving them the opportunity to build confidence and strengthen their understanding of numbers from the very beginning of their education.

Commenting on the impact of the initiative, Headteacher Damien Jordan said:
“The impact of these resources on our children has been significant. Numicon plays a vital role in helping pupils develop a deep understanding of number, calculation and mathematical concepts. The practical, visual nature of the resources enables children to build confidence, make connections and secure key mathematical skills from the earliest stages of their education”.

Cloud software has become an essential part of running a modern business. Whether it’s Microsoft 365, ChatGPT, Adobe, HubSpot, Zoom, Dropbox or industry-specific platforms, subscriptions can often be set up in just a few minutes using a company card.

However, there's one important detail that many businesses overlook.

If your account isn't configured correctly, you could be paying VAT on overseas software subscriptions when you don't need to. It's a common issue that we regularly identify when reviewing our clients' software costs, and one that can lead to unnecessary expense.

In this article, we explain how VAT-registered businesses can avoid paying unnecessary VAT on overseas software subscriptions by ensuring their accounts are set up correctly. We also cover how the reverse charge works, highlight some of the most common setup mistakes, and share the simple checks you can make to help reduce costs while remaining VAT compliant > https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0x51pR0

Your Guide to the Associated Company Rules!

Two companies are considered associated if one company controls the other, or if both companies are controlled by the same person or group of people.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2023, the main corporation tax thresholds are divided by the total number of associated companies, including the company itself.

In this guide, we explain how the rules apply to accounting periods falling within the corporation tax financial year starting 1 April 2026, who counts as an associated company, and the practical steps that can help protect your position > https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0x519N0

Personal tax planning is not only for people with complicated affairs. It is for company directors, landlords, higher earners, the self-employed and anyone with assets they want to protect.

Most people do not set out to overpay. It usually happens because they do not know which reliefs, allowances and timing options are available to them. Others under prepare, leaving decisions until a return deadline, a property sale, a business exit or an inheritance tax problem is already upon them.

Our new Personal Tax guide explains the main planning areas for 2026/27 and where timely advice can make a measurable difference. Download here > https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0x35ff0

On Friday, the Plus Accounting team stepped away from their desks for a day dedicated to giving back to the local community and strengthening our teamwork.

We started the day with a beach clean along Brighton Beach, collecting litter and helping to protect our local coastline. After a successful morning on the seafront, the team headed to Hove Lagoon for an afternoon of raft building and outdoor challenges.

Video Games Expenditure Credit, or VGEC, is now the main UK creative industry tax credit for qualifying video game productions. It replaced Video Games Tax Relief for new productions and applies to qualifying expenditure incurred from 1 January 2024. Games that entered production on or after 1 April 2025 must claim VGEC. VGTR remains available only for qualifying games that entered production before 1 April 2025, and it closes fully from 1 April 2027.

Our newly updated Video Games Expenditure Credit (VGEC) Guide explores everything you need to know about this tax relief for games developers. We cover what expenditure qualifies, how the relief works, the BFI Cultural Test, the claims process, and much more - helping you understand how to maximise the support available for your game development projects.

Recent reports suggest that HMRC has collected around ÂŁ336 million in inheritance tax from gifts that failed because the original owner continued to benefit from the assets after giving them away.

Between 2021 and 2026, almost 2,500 lifetime gifts, with a combined value of approximately £840 million, were reportedly treated as gifts with reservation of benefit. As a result, the assets remained within the donor’s estate for inheritance tax purposes.

The figures highlight an important point: making a gift isn’t always enough to reduce inheritance tax. How that gift is structured is just as important.

In this blog article, our Senior Tax Manager Louise Berry, explains the inheritance gift tax rules surrounding gifts with reservation of benefit, highlighting why simply giving assets away may not remove them from your estate and the key considerations for effective estate and succession planning > https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0x1z-t0
