Financial advice is generally marketed as a white, middle class, male thing. For decades women have rarely been at the centre of their own finances. So Bristol Financial Adviser, Simon Jones from Unividual, offers a guide to some of the key considerations women and men should be taking when planning...

What on earth does a financial adviser actually do?
Throughout your life you will come across key milestones that create financial challenges. We help clients overcome these challenges so they can achieve what they want from life. However, the biggest threat we face in helping others progress in life, is that people, through no fault of their own, don't understand the role financial advice plays in building, maintaining and protecting wealth. In 2019 the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) reported that only 8% of UK adults received financial advice. So in the last few years we started giving more knowledge away for free. Everyone has access to Unividual's free financial planning guides, news articles and videos. It isn't just Unividual on this mission though. Our clients are also passionate about the role financial advice has to play in society and wellbeing. They have shared their financial planning journey case studies so you can understand how affordable financial advice is and the role a financial adviser plays in reducing stress, so together we can improve your financial situation and safeguard you against your biggest financial fears. If you would like to understand what on earth we actually do please over head to unividual.co.uk or give me a call on 0330 353 0150

Thanks to ‘hyperbolic discounting’, we find saving for the future a difficult concept. The theory is that humans are hard-wired to value £1 in their pocket today over £1 in the future. Commonly people don't think about retirement until they are in their 30s or 40s. There are bills to pay and fun times to be had. But you CAN DO BOTH. Find out how to harness the super power of compound interest and how to take retirement planning in to your own hands by reading our Ultimate Guide To Retirement Planning ***OUT TODAY***

Whether your nearing retirement or just starting out in your career, it’s never too early or late to start retirement planning. YET WE FIND REASONS NOT TO. Find out the psychology behind why we "put off" planning for the future in Unividual's Ultimate Guide to Retirement Planning.

Five things to consider BEFORE making an investment
1. Current financial situation: sit down and do a full financial review - earnings, debt, savings etc
2. Strengths and weaknesses: a bit of soul-searching about what you want out of life can help you achieve your investment goals.
3. Consider your risk profile: with investments, there is no such thing as a ‘sure-fire’ winner so you’ll need to think about the risk your investments carry and how that risk makes you feel if the value goes up or down.
4. The term of your investment: when might you need access to your money and how long do you want it invested
5. The ethical considerations that are important to you

The average pension pot of a 65 year old woman is £35,800, that's a fifth of a man the same age.

I would like to take the opportunity this in my role as an Insuring Women's Futures Ambassador to highlight the Pension Gap.

The gender pay gap and the persistence of traditional female work patterns are key factors contributing to this shortfall.

💷Mens lifetime average earnings are around 80% greater than womens.

⏳2/3 of women work part time sacrificing 30% pay per hour compared to women working full-time.

💰3/4 of people earning less than the £10,000 threshold for Auto-enrolment are women.

If you would like to find out more check out the Insuring Women's Futures page on our website (link in the comments)
