Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming MP James Frith to our offices for an inspiring conversation around apprenticeships, skills development, and the future of work in Bury.
As a passionate advocate for education and opportunities for young people, MP Frith took the time to learn more about how we support apprenticeships here at Davenports. From recruitment and mentorship to progression and retention, we shared our journey and commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.

We also had the chance to discuss our proudest achievement this year - being named the 2025 SME Employer of the Year at the Lancashire Apprenticeship Awards. This recognition reflects the hard work of our team and the dedication of every apprentice who has contributed to our success.

It was a valuable and productive visit, filled with shared ideas and a common vision for growing Bury’s young workforce through meaningful, hands-on learning.

Davenports Group Welcomes Councillor Khalid Hussain and Mrs Carol Bernstein, the Mayor and Mayoress of Bury to Celebrate Community and Charity Support.

Today, the Davenports Group was honoured to host Councillor Khalid Hussain and Mrs. Carol Bernstein, the Mayor and Mayoress of Bury, at our office on Badger Street in Bury. This visit marked an important occasion as we celebrated both community engagement and charitable giving.

During their visit, the Davenports Group proudly presented a cheque for £500 to the Mayoral Charity Appeal. This significant contribution reflects our commitment to supporting the valuable work being done by the chosen beneficiaries of the Appeal. The funds will aid Bury Hospice , The Fusilier Museum, Lancashire, and Bury People First a local charity dedicated to supporting children with autism. Throughout the Mayoral Year, numerous fundraising events are planned, with proceeds going to these impactful causes, underscoring the dedication to community welfare.

“We believe these causes are truly amazing and deserving of our support,” said Jason Davenport, Director at the Davenports Group. “It’s an honour to contribute to initiatives that bring meaningful change and support to the people of Bury.”

In addition to the cheque presentation, Councillor Hussain and the Mayor and Mayoress acknowledged the milestone of our “Bury’s Business Experts Community Booklet,” which celebrates its 5th anniversary this year. This booklet has served as a cornerstone of our engagement with local businesses and residents, fostering growth and connection within the community. The Mayor and Mayoress extended their congratulations on this significant achievement.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Dame Maggie Smith, a true British icon whose extraordinary talent touched generations. From her sharp wit as the Dowager Countess in Downton Abbey to the wisdom and warmth she brought to Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter, her legacy on screen and stage is unparalleled. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and admired her work. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Stay alert if you receive any communication from HMRC. We've received the below email today, it suggests we are owed a VAT refund from HMRC. If you are VAT registered, you'll probably be aware that HMRC aren't that quick and they'll leave overpayments on account.
