It’s Friday, and I’m sitting here thinking about the week we’ve had.

A few challenges, a few wins, a couple of “how is it already Thursday?” moments.

But we got there.

Every week in business feels different — some are smooth, some are chaos — but when I get to Friday and know clients are happy, VATs are filed, payroll’s done, and everything balances, it’s a good feeling.

I’ll take that as a win 💚

I’m one of those people who’s always tweaking things.

Reports, templates, workflows — you name it.

I can’t help myself! I’ll finish something, then instantly think of a slightly better way to do it next time.

It used to frustrate me — like I couldn’t just leave things alone.

But over time, I’ve realised that’s actually one of the reasons Eden has grown the way it has.

Every small improvement makes something clearer, faster, or more efficient for our clients.

A new report layout might help a client spot trends sooner.

A refined workflow might save us an hour a week.

An updated template might make onboarding smoother for a new client.

It’s rarely about the big changes — it’s the hundreds of little ones that quietly stack up to create something that just works.

I’ve stopped chasing perfection (because, let’s be honest, it doesn’t exist) and started appreciating progress instead.

Looking back now, I can see how those tiny tweaks have shaped what Eden is today — and I’m pretty proud of that.

Bookkeeping isn’t what it used to be — and I love that.

It used to be data entry, receipts, and chasing paperwork.

Now it’s about analysis, strategy, and helping clients understand what’s happening in their business.

It feels good to be part of that shift — from “back office admin” to being a real part of a business’s growth.

I think that’s what keeps me so interested after all these years. It’s never just numbers anymore.

Accounting is an evolving industry, and I, for one, am excited to be a part of the shift!

Some of my favourite business chats don’t happen in meetings — they happen over a cuppa or general chat about life.

It’s where the honest stuff comes out. The worries, the ideas, the random “I’ve been meaning to ask you about…” moments that never fit into an email.

Those conversations often lead to the biggest improvements.

Because once you understand the person behind the business, everything else makes sense.

This is why those chats where we talk about holidays or kids are just as important a the discussions about the numbers

The best feedback I ever get from a client is,

“I actually understand my numbers now.”

It sounds simple, but it means the world.

Bookkeeping can feel like a foreign language for some people, so when it clicks — when they finally see what their figures are telling them — that’s when the real progress starts.

That’s honestly the part of the job I love the most

From here, better business decisions can be made, goals can be achieved, and stress levels reduced. I can't ask for more 😊

November always feels like a weird in-between month.

You’re trying to finish the year strong, stay on top of client work, plan for next year, and still keep up with school things and life in general.

It’s busy, but not quite Christmas-busy — just… the build-up.

Over the years, I’ve realised the only way I can stay sane is to keep things organised - in life and at work, I don't deal well with chaos!

Do you ever get that little imposter voice that makes you question something you know is right?

For me, it’s when I’m asking clients to sign up for another bit of tech.

We are a tech-savvy practice that utilises tools we believe benefit our clients.

I start worrying they’ll think it’s unnecessary.

But, every single tool we use — Xero, Briefcase, Xenon, Chazy — makes life easier for both us and our clients.

It saves time, reduces errors, and lets us focus on the important stuff.

So I’m done doubting it.

Everyone starts somewhere.

A few weeks ago, we took on a T Level work experience student from the local college.

He’s settled in so well already, and it’s been lovely seeing him get curious about bookkeeping and how everything fits together behind the scenes.

It’s strange — watching someone start their journey reminds me of my own early days (albeit forever ago).

How nervous I was, how little I knew, and how grateful I was to anyone who took the time to explain things properly.

It feels really nice to be able to do that for someone else now.

If I told you what we did on day one at Eden Bookkeeping Solutions, it was very different to what we do now!!

Being brutally honest, we used to just reconcile the bank and move on. That was it. No health checks, no monthly reports, no real analysis.

Now there is so much more to what we do!

We produce monthly reports, check where clients can save money, chase clients customer invoices, set up Xero for each individual client, and make sure everything actually means something to the business owner.

We also have a network of connections on hand who can support our clients with issues that we can't help with.

I can’t believe how much we’ve changed — or how much I’ve changed, to be honest.

I would say I've grown in confidence, some days I have, some I haven't...the joys of being a business owner 😆

It makes me wonder what the next few years will bring, because there’s no way we’re done improving yet.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped Eden Bookkeeping Solutions LTD get to where it is now, I've learnt a lot from a lot of people 💚

It’s such a lovely surprise and a reminder of how great the bookkeeping community is.

Sometimes it’s the small gestures that really brighten your day — especially on a Friday after a crazy few weeks! ☕🌿

I’ve been reminding myself lately that it’s okay to slow down sometimes.

When you run a business, there’s always something to do — a report to check, an email to send, a system to tweak.

I love being productive, but there’s a fine line between being busy and being burned out.

This week, I’ve been trying to be more intentional with my time — closing the laptop on time, leaving my phone in another room in the evenings, and not feeling like I have to reply to every message straight away.

It’s part digital detox, part self-preservation. And honestly, it’s helped more than I expected.

I want to be a good example to the kids too — to show them that it’s okay to rest, to switch off, and that you don't need a device in your hand!

They notice when I’m glued to my phone… and they notice when I’m present, too.

Owning a business has taught me that consistency beats constant motion.

It’s not about doing everything — it’s about doing what matters, and having the energy (and headspace) to keep going.

I love Bonfire Night — the lights, the smell of the fire, the excuse for hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows! ☕🔥

…but can we talk about how fireworks now seem to last at least two weeks? 💥

At all hours — even in daylight?! You can’t even see them then! Feels like burning money for the sake of it. 😅

And it got me thinking — business finances can be the same sometimes.

Money goes up in smoke when it isn’t planned or tracked.

A few random spends here and there might not seem like much, but over time they can add up to a serious bang in your budget. 💚

So this week’s reminder: check your outgoings, trim the waste, and make sure every pound counts (even the ones you can’t “see” in daylight!).

Happy Bonfire Night! Stay safe, stay warm, and maybe skip the 7 a.m. fireworks 😉
