We : how much of a pension pot do I actually need to retire comfortably? ☀️
It’s one of the most common questions we hear, and the honest answer is that it depends on the lifestyle you want. Some people want plenty of travel and hobbies. Others simply want comfort, security and fewer money worries.
A useful place to start is by working backwards from the income you’d like each month, then checking whether your pensions and savings are on track to provide it.
For example, £2,500 a month is around £30,000 a year before tax. The full State Pension currently provides around £12,548 a year, depending on your National Insurance record, so your pensions and savings would need to cover the rest.
How much you need will also depend on when you retire, how long your money needs to last and investment performance.
That’s why reviewing things early can make such a difference. Small changes now could have a meaningful impact later, and the sooner you start planning, the more options you’ll usually have.
