What we're doing to keep savers safe:

Financial frauds hurt all investors and pension savers. At a personal level, individuals can be tragically deprived of their life savings and condemned to an impoverished retirement.

I'm often asked what makes us different from other adviser firms, and even what makes us different from other businesses in general.

There are so many things, I hardly know where to start, but I guess money is a good place.

We're not greedy. Believe it or not, it is perfectly possible to succeed in business without being greedy.

Want an even bigger revelation? Okay, being GENEROUS can actually make you MORE successful.

We've always aimed to be generous to clients, to colleagues, and to the community. Weirdly, we've NOT gone bust! On the contrary, we've made a profit from day one, we've increased our turnover and profits most years, and we've managed, at the same time, to CUT what we charge clients.

What's the secret? The secret is not being greedy, simple as. I pay some colleagues more than I pay myself, and I'm very happy to do that. I look forward to the day when I pay them all more than I pay myself.

I learned generosity from my dad:

A.  Fine. My dad was a coal miner and my mother a garment worker.  All my holidays in the 60s and 70s were spent in caravans at Hornsea on the East Yorkshire coast until I was 13, when we went to Innsbruck on a Wallace Arnold coach tour.  I went to the local state schools where I’ve sent my own...

A lot of people are panicking (again!) about what the Chancellor might do in her budget re' pension tax free cash. Here's an article I wrote last year: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/dont-panic-your-pension-tax-free-cash-should-safe-neil-f-liversidge-kkxde/ My position is the same now as then.

I do not know what Reeves will say in her budget speech. What I can say is:

1) If she does nothing about tax-free cash, then you’ll probably be worse off for having withdrawn your money from its tax shelter.

2) If she does anything about tax-free cash the most likely thing she will do is to say that whatever your tax-free cash entitlement was based on the value of your plan on [D-Day] will be as much as you can take.

3) The next most likely thing is that she limits tax-free cash to a specific number like £100k or £250k or whatever, per person.

4) If she cancels the right to tax-free cash (highly unlikely in my opinion – see my article as to why) then you would have been better off for having withdrawn pre-budget.

For what it’s worth, my wife and I are not withdrawing our tax-free cash pre-budget. I put my money where my mouth is.

I’ve had a fair few calls lately from clients and non-clients worried that the Government will remove savers’ right to take 25% of their Personal Pension pots as tax-free cash. Obviously, I can’t guarantee that the Government won’t do something so unfair or stupid.

As we move towards the year end, we are absolutely booked solid with client meetings and recruiting extra staff to handle the ever-increasing workload. We are particularly finding a demand for our services from clients of formerly independent adviser firms who've sold out to 'consolidators' such as True Potential after their advisers have cashed out and retired. They're understandable unhappy that their fees have gone up while 'service' seems to be a thing of the past. Whereas they previously dealt with real people, now they're being told to talk to an app.

People keep asking me when I'll retire. The answer is that I have no plans to do so. Three things keep me going: 1) Getting great results for clients; 2) Helping people build great careers; and 3) The joy of working with people, both clients and colleagues. This is a people business. We'll never ask you to talk to an app or a bot. Phone us in business hours and you should find your call answered by a real person in 2-3 rings. If you're a client already, you know how to get me 24/7 if it's urgent.

If you think you might like to work here, we offer 30 days paid holiday including statutory days and we're known as one of the best-paying firms in the entire profession. Staff bonuses have averaged between 15% pa and 20% pa for at least ten years now and we give colleagues a free early finish on Fridays.

I know what you're thinking: How do we manage to be so generous to staff and still charge less than everyone else? The answer is that we, the owners, my wife and I, aren't greedy. It's as simple as that. We don't take an excess amount out of the pot, and that way there's more to go around for the rest of the workforce whilst still keeping our fees rock-bottom. Our company is the nearest thing to a workers' co-operative that actually works, unlike the two Tony Benn founded back in the 1970s. We're an owner- managed business where everyone mucks in, us included. Nobody works for us. They work with us.

Another adviser joins us on 1 December, and we expect to have another administrator join us before the year end, but we shall continue to expand. So, if you have the skills and the experience we need, either in advising or administration, why not drop us a line? Send your CV to me, Neil F Liversidge email [email protected]. Alternatively, if you're reading this as a potential future client, the email address is the same or call me on 01977 808600. Either way, I shall look forward to speaking to you.
