One of the most common things clients say after we’ve completed their tax return early is:

👉 “That’s a weight off my mind.”

And I completely understand why.

Often it’s not the tax bill itself that causes the stress.

It’s not knowing.

Once you know the figure, you can make a plan.

Whether that’s putting money aside each month or simply knowing where you stand.

Good financial planning starts with having good information.

One thing many clients find surprising is that I’m already starting to think about Self Assessment tax returns.

The deadline may be January, but I much prefer getting them completed well in advance.

There are lots of benefits:

🎾 You know exactly what tax is due.

🎾 You have longer to budget for it.

🎾 Any questions can be dealt with early.

🎾 You avoid the January rush.

For me, January is a deadline—not a target!

June and July are actually some of my favourite months in the business.

The bank holidays are behind us.

The boys activities calm down slightly.

Summer holidays haven’t quite arrived yet.

It’s often the perfect opportunity to get ahead before the busy autumn and January periods arrive.

I’m a big believer that being organised now makes life much easier later.

Future Emily always appreciates it when current Emily gets ahead of herself! 😄

Last week was the first week I’ve missed posting on social media since I started sharing my business journey.

Half term arrived, family life took over and before I knew it the week had disappeared!

Between bank holidays, birthdays and family commitments, April and May have been busy both in and out of work.

One of the reasons I started my own business was to have the flexibility to enjoy these moments when they come along.

But now June is here, things are starting to settle down and I’m looking forward to getting back into a routine and focusing on the business over the next couple of months.

Watching Josh start a business at such a young age has reminded me that you’re never too young to start learning about business.

Not everything has to become a huge company.

Sometimes it’s simply about:
• Learning confidence
• Taking initiative
• Trying something new
• Understanding responsibility

And those lessons stay with you for life.

I’d love to see more young people encouraged to give things a go instead of being scared to fail.

Hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend too, especially as the sun finally seems to have decided to come out ☀️😊

One of the fun parts of Chorley Panthers Charity Day was the post-match shirt auction 😄

The club had special shirts made for the game and afterwards the wet, muddy and well-used match shirts were auctioned off.

I managed to get my husband a shirt in the right size, so he was very happy!

Rugby people will understand how important these things are 😂

Josh was back selling at Chorley Panthers Charity Day on Saturday 😊

The weather was absolutely awful 🌧️😅 but the community still came out to support the day, which was brilliant to see and a total of £4000 was raised for North West Air Ambulance.

His stall was a little quieter because of the weather, but he still made some good sales and donated 10% of his takings to the chosen charity, the North West Air Ambulance.

A good lesson that even when conditions aren’t ideal, it’s still worth showing up.

Even small businesses teach valuable lessons.

Josh’s rugby kit business has taught him:
• Confidence
• Communication skills
• Handling money
• Customer service
• The reality that sales don’t just magically happen 😄

It’s easy to underestimate how much you learn from simply giving something a go.

And as a parent, it’s been lovely watching his confidence grow alongside it.

One thing I really admire in young people is initiative.

My son Josh (our trainee bookkeeper!) started his own little business when he was 14 buying and selling second-hand rugby kit.

What started as a simple idea quickly became something he really enjoyed.

For the last few years, you’d regularly find him at our local rugby club on a Saturday morning selling pre loved rugby kit 😄

I think encouraging young people to try things, build confidence and understand the value of money is so important.

Birthday weekend officially starting 🎉😊

So the out of office is officially on today!

It’s been a very busy week, but a good one.

A successful sporting week too 😄
🎾 Tennis league win 7-5, and I personally won 2 out of my 3 sets
🏐 Netball was a much tighter result—we narrowly lost 9-10

And I’ve now found out what my husband had planned for my birthday…

🚜 A tractor driving experience!

I actually grew up on a farm as a child, so I’m really looking forward to it 😊

One thing running my own business has taught me is the importance of balance.

There will always be more work to do—but time with family, hobbies and making memories matters too.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend when it comes.
