I’m back! ☀️

After a fantastic two-week break in 🇮🇹 , I’m back at my desk today attempting to work my way through the emails!

I’m not quite fully operational just yet, as unfortunately I have a funeral to attend tomorrow, but from Wednesday it will be business as usual at My Clear Accounts.

And I couldn’t come back without sharing a few videos from our holiday… 😂

The things my boys make me do!

Canyoning and rafting was VERY much outside my comfort zone. I was absolutely petrified at times, but somehow they persuaded me to keep going!

So here’s the evidence – three little clips of me questioning my life choices while the boys were probably wondering what all the fuss was about! 😂

As they get older, our family adventures seem to be getting a little more adventurous too. But I’m glad I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and did it – even if I wasn’t quite saying that at the time!

Lots of memories made, batteries recharged and now I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

I’ve been a little quiet on here recently… but definitely not quiet behind the scenes!

It’s been a very busy few weeks getting VAT returns completed, tackling the first Making Tax Digital submissions and generally trying to clear the decks before some much-needed annual leave.

Tomorrow, the My Clear Accounts office closes for two weeks. ☀️

As a one-person practice (with a little help from Josh!), switching off completely isn’t always easy, but I’m going to do my very best to step away from the laptop and enjoy a proper break.

I’ll be back refreshed and ready to go towards the end of August, with September bringing the start of another busy period.

Thank you as always to my lovely clients for keeping me busy – and for getting all that information to me before I disappeared! 😄

I’ve been a little quieter on here over the last week, but it’s certainly not because life has slowed down!

The last few weeks have involved plenty of extra driving practice with Josh ahead of his driving test. Thankfully, all the hard work paid off, and I can officially retire from my part-time role as driving instructor! 🚗😂

Ben has been keeping us busy too after making it through the first stage of the Head Pupil application process. Whatever the outcome, we’re incredibly proud that he had the confidence to put himself forward. Having the courage to take opportunities and challenge yourself is a valuable lesson in itself.

With my husband travelling a lot for work recently, it’s been a case of holding the fort at home while juggling family life alongside the business.

Work certainly hasn’t slowed down either. I’m now on the three-week countdown until our family holiday, so it’s all about clearing the decks with VAT returns and the first Making Tax Digital submissions before I head off.

I’ve noticed clients have been a little slower than usual getting information over to me… although between the recent heatwave and the football, I can’t say I blame them! ☀️⚽

One of the reasons I love running my own practice is that it allows me to be there for moments that matter with my family, while still delivering the service my clients expect. It’s not always easy to balance everything, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Life is for living after all… but if you’re one of my clients with records still to send over, this is your gentle reminder! 😄

I was a little distracted this morning! 🤣

Josh has absolutely smashed it and passed his driving test! 🎉 A huge thank you to James, who has been an amazing instructor throughout. His calm teaching style has given Josh so much confidence behind the wheel.

Now the big question… what am I going to do with the 5–6 hours a week I’ve just got back now that I’m no longer a part-time driving instructor? 😆

In all seriousness, I’ve really enjoyed spending that time with Josh, helping him learn and watching his confidence grow. It’s been a special chapter, but I’m incredibly proud that he’s now passed and ready to enjoy the freedom that comes with it. 🚗

🌟 FIRST🌟 time pass..... and the latest addition to the 🎊ZERO HERO🎊 gang is Josh! Absolutely amazing drive this morning, calm, cool and collected, getting the job done with ease.

Josh started his learning journey just over 3 months ago, ticking off the theory test straight away, listening hard during lessons and then building his skills with private practice with parents (huge well done to mum and dad). Just goes to show with the right application and correct attitude, learning to drive doesnt have to take very long 👏👏👏👏

It’s our 20th wedding anniversary today ❤️

We knew my husband would be away with work, so we celebrated at the weekend with a lovely night away in Liverpool.

Tonight, the boys and I are looking forward to watching England… although my husband definitely won’t be too disappointed to miss the football! ⚽😂

Twenty years has certainly flown by.

One of the things I love most about being my own boss is the flexibility to organise my day in a way that works for both me and my family.

Today started with the weekly food shop at 6:30am (before the supermarket got busy! 😄), then back home to make sure my two teenage boys were up and out of the door on time.

I managed to get an hour’s woChaz Kaurefore heading off to the gym for a BLAZE class with the brilliant instructor Chaz. Excellent class as always! 💪

Now it’s back home to crack on with some client work… after giving my legs a little rest first! 😂

It’s days like today that remind me why I started My Clear Accounts. The flexibility to fit work around life, while still giving my clients the service they deserve, is something I never take for granted.

It’s been a busy week getting the first Making Tax Digital quarterly submissions completed.

One thing this week has reinforced is that leaving everything until the last minute simply creates unnecessary stress.

The clients who have been prepared have found the process straightforward.

The ones trying to get organised at the last minute have had a much more challenging time.

If you think Making Tax Digital may affect you, my advice is simple:

Don’t wait until your next submission deadline to get organised.

A little preparation now will save a lot of stress later.

After working on my first Making Tax Digital submissions this week, one thing has really stood out.

The businesses finding the process easiest aren’t necessarily the most tech-savvy.

They’re the ones who have good bookkeeping habits.

🎾 Their records are kept up to date.
🎾 Their bank accounts are reconciled regularly.
🎾 Receipts are recorded as they go.

Making Tax Digital isn’t just about using software—it’s about having good financial records throughout the year.

That’s exactly why I encourage all of my business clients to keep on top of their bookkeeping, whether they’re VAT registered or not.
