Are you setting money aside for your tax bill each month?

One of the most common mistakes I see business owners make is spending everything that lands in their business account, only to be caught out when their tax bill arrives.

A simple habit can make a huge difference:
✅ Money in
➖ Business expenses out
📊 Calculate a percentage of what's left (minimum 20%)
💷 Move that amount into a separate savings account

It only takes a few minutes each month and can help you avoid a nasty surprise later on.

I've created a simple spreadsheet that helps you work out how much to set aside each month.

Comment TAX and I'll send it over. 😊

☀️ Hello June! ☀️

Where has May gone?! 😅

Sorry I've been so quiet on here lately, the month absolutely flew by. Between keeping on top of client bookkeeping and navigating the children's half-term, it's been a very busy few weeks!

I'm incredibly grateful to all of my clients for keeping me busy, and I'm looking forward to helping even more businesses stay organised and stress-free as we head into June.

And let's hope the sunshine makes a return soon too! 🌞

Here's to a productive month ahead, brighter days, and getting those finances in order! 📊✨

Most businesses aren’t losing money in obvious ways. It’s happening quietly, in the background.

🔴 Not pricing properly
If your prices don’t reflect your costs, time, and value… you’re underpaid every single day.

🔴 Ignoring small expenses
Subscriptions, software, little “it’s only £10” purchases… they add up faster than you think.

🔴 No monthly review
If you’re not checking your numbers regularly, problems don’t get fixed, they grow.

None of these feel urgent in the moment…But over time? They quietly drain your profit.

👉 The good news: every single one of these is fixable.

Start by checking your numbers this month, not at year end.

Save this so you can come back to it when you need a reset ✔️

💭 Your bank balance and your actual accounts can tell two VERY different stories…

You open your banking app and see a healthy balance 😌
“Business is doing great!”

Then your bookkeeper says:
“Actually… you’ve made a loss this year.”

Wait… what?! 😳

How can that be when there’s money in the bank?

Here’s the truth 👇
💡 Your bank shows cash right now
💡 Your accounts show how your business is actually performing

That “nice balance” might still include:
– Unpaid bills
– Tax that’s coming due
– Income that isn’t actually profit yet

So while your bank looks healthy…your profit might be telling a different story 📊

And that’s exactly why proper bookkeeping matters. It turns confusion into clarity.

📊 Limited Company Deadlines (2026–2027)

One of the biggest misconceptions?
👉 There isn’t just ONE deadline.

For limited companies, your deadlines are based on your year end but here’s the simple way to understand it:

💡 You pay your tax first… then file it later

🧾 The key rules:

✔ Company accounts (Companies House)
→ Due 9 months after your year end
✔ Corporation Tax payment
→ Due 9 months + 1 day after your year end
✔ CT600 (tax return)
→ Due 12 months after your year end
✔ Confirmation Statement
→ Due every 12 months
→ Filed within 14 days of your review period ending

✔ Register for Corporation Tax
→ Within 3 months of starting to trade

👤 Directors — don’t forget:
If you take dividends, you’ll usually need to submit a Self Assessment tax return
📅 Deadline: 31 January following the end of the tax year
(e.g. 31 January 2027 for the 2025/26 tax year)

⚠️ Missing deadlines can lead to penalties, interest, and unnecessary stress.

One thing I see all the time with small business owners… they miss expenses they’re actually allowed to claim.

When you're busy running a business, it's easy for the smaller things to slip through the cracks. But those small expenses can actually reduce your tax bill.

Over the course of a year, they can really add up, so it’s worth keeping track of them.

👇 What’s an expense you didn’t realise you could claim?

📢 New Financial Year Incoming… Is Your Business Ready?

Before the new financial year starts, there’s a small window of time to get organised, reset, and set yourself up for a smoother year ahead.

Here are 5 things every business owner should be doing right now 👇

✔ Review your numbers
Look back at the last year. What worked, what didn’t, and where can you improve?

✔ Chase outstanding invoices
Don’t carry old cash flow problems into a new year.

✔ Get your bookkeeping up to date
Clean records = better decisions (and less stress later on!)

✔ Review your expenses
Cancel unused subscriptions and cut unnecessary costs.

✔ Set a clear budget
Know your monthly targets for income, spending, and profit.

✨ A new financial year isn’t just about compliance. It’s a chance to reset, refocus, and grow.

If you’ve run your numbers but aren’t quite sure what they’re telling you, you’re not alone.

📩 Drop me a message. I’d be happy to take a look before the new financial year starts.
