School holidays are upon us! I started the 6 weeks in style by following the many client suggestions and booking a family break in Whitby.

A truly stunning little town, so much to see (and eat) but I also spent hours sat on our cottage patio looking out over the key and up to the Abbey, with a book and/or a glass of wine. A much needed switch off and I’m very grateful for my team holding the fort while I’m off this week ❤️

A wee reminder that my availability is limited over the summer holidays as I juggle family responsibilities. September and October I will also be working shorter days. I may be around slightly less for meetings but my capacity has actually increased due to extra staff and also fully embracing a new AI assistant (amazing what modern tech can do!)

Lovely day off with my small human today, I asked where she wanted to go for lunch and an ice cream- she answered The Hirsel so I ended up back at the office on my day off 🥴 (I don’t mind so much when there’s ice cream involved!)

A little reminder and note of thanks from me; when you choose to work with us you’re not just supporting a small local business, you’re helping a young hard working family juggle their way through life.

I have given my all to self employment for the last 6 years and helped hundreds of people along the way but the continued support of my clients means my little business is thriving. That means I can take time off in the school holidays, I can make it to my daughters school assemblies or take an emergency day off if she’s ill and I can eat ice cream in the sun on a bank holiday with her ❤️ It really does mean the world and I’m incredibly grateful!

With summer holidays approaching I will have less availability in my diary so if you’re thinking of getting in touch please do!

And just like that Tax Year End 25/26 is finished 🥳

It’s the busiest time of the year for us but also the time we can be the most effective for our clients by ensuring they make the most of their tax allowances!

Over the last 6 weeks we have:

⭐️ helped 18 clients make a lump sum pension contribution
⭐️ paid £243,477 into pensions
⭐️ those contributions have received £75,869 in income tax relief 🤯
⭐️ paid £108,000 into stocks and shares ISAs to grow free of tax
⭐️ used 5 full capital gains tax allowances totalling £15,000

And that’s not counting the 3 clients now successfully retired from this month following years of careful planning.

So while it’s been stressful at times (mainly due to me panicking that I’ve missed something because it’s going suspiciously smoothly 😅) we have done a great job and are giving ourselves a well deserved pat on the back!

I’m off for a week of school holidays now and will be refreshed and ready to start a new tax year next Monday- thanks all for your continued support, Mary ❤️

Many of our clients love coming to visit us at The Hirsel as it’s the perfect excuse to take in the stunning walks and scenery… and Highland Coos!

I must admit I rarely take advantage of our wonderful surroundings. Particularly at tax year end, which normally consists of me crunched over my laptop like a prawn and never seeing daylight- but the sun was just too tempting today ☀️

We are now fully focussed on making sure all ISAs and Pensions are topped up (and helping clients safely navigate rocky markets!) Our diary will reopen to new enquiries in mid April- pop us a message or email to [email protected] if you’d like to join the waiting list- Mary x

🎉Exciting news from Leet HQ 🎉

We would like to introduce you all to our new Financial Planning Administrator, Caroline!

Caroline joined me and Nic in the office for a couple days induction this week before beating a hasty retreat back to Newcastle to continue working from the comfort of home (though she was very impressed by the tray bakes on offer at the Homestead Cafe and promises to be back on a monthly basis!)

Caroline says, “I have worked in Financial Services administration since 2010 and for big corporate firms since 2017. After reading about Leet & getting to know Mary & Nic I am really looking forward to working for a smaller firm that really cares about the client.
In my spare time I love to spend time with my daughter when she is home from travelling the world. I enjoy walking, city breaks/holidays, going to the theatre and cooking.
I am looking forward to building relationships with our clients and helping them throughout their journey to make it as stress free as possible.”

A wonderful way to start the week reading such a kind review left over the weekend!

Happy New Year! 2026 is looking to be a huge year for us and we are looking for a charity/community group partner to share that with!

Last year we gave alot of our time and expertise for free initial meetings, sense check phone calls, or even just understanding some pension paperwork. Instead of this very valuable work being unpaid (even though people were volunteering to pay us!) we decided to open a ‘pay what you can’ option so people could donate directly to our charity partner. And it worked! We managed to raise over £400 to Harris Trust over the course of 4 months! 🥳

We want to continue the good work and raise even more this year:

⭐️Are you involved in a local (Borders based) charity, CIC or community group?
⭐️Do you know of any hidden gems of support in the Borders that often get overlooked and underfunded?

We had a little elf visit on Monday to bring some Christmas spirit to the office!

I think you’ll all agree she did a fantastic job 🥰

Hi Folks!

It’s been very quiet on here due to the business being incredibly busy (not a bad problem to have!) But there are lots of exciting things happening behind the scenes that will hopefully propel the business forward and give me more time and energy to help my lovely clients- can’t wait to share it all with you soon 🥰

In the meantime I’m going to take a little social media break so I can focus on my business, family and self. I would encourage you to contact via the website if possible.
