There are just six months to go until sole traders and landlords with a turnover of more than £30,000 will be required to use Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax.

HM Revenue and Customs is urging those customers to sign up on GOV.UK and start preparing now. They should check whether they meet the threshold, as turnover includes gross income from self-employment and property before any tax allowances or expenses are deducted.

Almost 3 million Child Trust Fund accounts held by 18 to 24 year-olds have either been claimed or transferred into an Individual Savings Account, HM Revenue and Customs reveals as it encourages the thousands who don’t know where their savings are to find them today.

Latest figures show around 827,000 young adults have a matured Child Trust Fund account waiting to be claimed, which could be worth on average £2,310.

With more than £300 million having been paid out in bonus payments, and thousands more people set to be eligible for an account through the Help to Save scheme, HM Revenue and Customs kicked off UK Savings Week by reminding people who can benefit.

Help to Save is a government savings scheme offering low-income earners a 50% bonus on whatever they can save. Between £1 and £50 can be saved each month with an extra 50 pence added for every £1 saved.
