Hi all!

Thank you all so much for your cooperation during this first MTD rush! The deadline is now over and everyone’s updates should be submitted to HMRC 😎

If you haven’t sent us your income and expenses yet then please do that as soon as possible! And if you haven't sent approval to Donna please do that so she can submit your updates.

The next quarter is 6th July to 5th October and the next deadline is 7th November.

At this point I would recommend sending your income and expenses monthly to myself to avoid the scramble at the end of the quarter - this way I can keep your records up to date and compliant with MTD rules.

I start my maternity leave in early October so will not be available once the 2nd quarter has ended.

We’re receiving increased reports of customers receiving scam emails claiming they are due a Self Assessment tax refund for 2024 to 2025. The emails tell recipients they need to claim their refund urgently and asks them to provide personal and bank details.

We will never email you with an urgent deadline to claim a tax refund. To check whether you're due a tax refund, log in securely to your HMRC online account through GOV.UK or the HMRC app. ❌

Always take the time to stop and think if the request is genuine before sharing personal information, clicking on any links or opening attachments. If you’re unsure, don't click on any links and report it to us.

While you’re making your payment, why not also submit your 25-26 tax return? This means you’ll have six months to budget for any tax you owe.

Give Self Assessment stress the red card this .

Filing your tax return early means you can:

📅 Find out what you owe earlier, so you can plan ahead.
💷 See if you’ve overpaid tax and arrange your refund.
😮‍💨 Avoid last-minute stress.

Filing now doesn’t mean you have to pay straight away – the payment deadline remains 31 January 2027.

MTD is fast approaching, and faster than you think! 😖

The first quarter has just ended so, now is the perfect time to send over your income and expenses for the period 6th April to 5th July

Don't worry if your records aren't 100% accurate as we can go in and correct your submissions as we go on, MTD is not four tax returns but instead a running total of your income and expenses throughout the year!

That also means you will only have to pay once as well, as soon as your final declaration is sent away to HMRC then your bill is paid same as it always has been 😁

Even if you have not been flagged for MTD by us please still give this post a read as eventually all sole traders and landlords will be required to comply with MTD rules by 2029!!
