⏰ Tomorrow is a first for the UK tax system.
7 August 2026 is the very first quarterly update deadline under Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for ITSA), covering 6 April to 5 July.
If you're a sole trader or landlord with qualifying income over £50,000, this now applies to you - and it replaces the once-a-year tax return with four updates plus a Final Declaration.
Not filed yet? Don't panic. HMRC has confirmed a soft landing for the first year, so there are no penalty points for late quarterly updates during 2026/27. But it's worth getting set up properly now rather than letting it drift.
We've just updated our plain-English guide with a simple decision tree so you can check in two minutes whether MTD for ITSA applies to you, and what to do next 👇
