Today’s lesson - Risk, Luck and Behaviour.

We are exploring why success is never fully under our control, why resilience matters and why diversification exists.

These two, for a bit of fun, are playing The Game of Life. Discovering how it’s a mixture of strategic decision making AND chance that create success.

Some opportunities do come from taking calculated risks and some outcomes are influenced by timing and luck. However, over the long run, our daily habits, discipline, decisions and how we respond to setbacks will determine our chances of success.

As the saying goes “The harder I work, the luckier I get”

Two years ago we welcomed Henry and Ellen, (who were studying for their GCSEs) into the office to explore the fundamentals of personal finance through Martin Lewis’ Your money matters guide, building a strong foundation in budgeting, saving, debt and financial decision making.

This week they’re back - now as A level students.

This time we are to be inspired by The psychology of money by Morgan House. It reminds us that financial success isn’t just about what you know, but is often about how you think. Looking at how patience, decision making, risk, opportunity and long term thinking often matter more than spreadsheets and calculations.

It’s always a pleasure to share our knowledge and experience with young people. To see them excited to learn and take steps to invest in their future. We are all delighted to welcome these two back and look forward to another great week together.

The Bank of England have held the base rate at 3.75% again today. They have been held at this rate since December 2025.

The Monetary Policy Committee has today voted 8-9 to hold interest rates at 3.75%. Economists had widely predicted the decision, warning it is too early for rate setters to raise it over concerns about the economic impact of the Iran War.
