📮 **Filing your tax return on paper? October is your deadline month!**

If you’re submitting a paper Self Assessment tax return for the **2025/26 tax year**, HMRC must **receive it by 31 October 2026**.

⏰ That means it needs to arrive by the deadline — simply posting it on 31 October won’t be enough. Allow plenty of time for delivery to avoid a late filing penalty.

Filing online instead? The usual deadline for online returns is **31 January 2027**, which is also when any tax owed is due.

⏰ Started a business or side hustle? Monday’s deadline could apply to you!

If you need to complete a Self Assessment tax return for the first time for the 2025/26 tax year, you must register with HMRC by Monday, 5 October 2026.

This could include anyone who earned more than £1,000 from self-employment before expenses between 6 April 2025 and 5 April 2026 — even if it was alongside their regular job.

📌 This is the registration deadline. The usual deadline for submitting your online return and paying any tax owed is 31 January 2027.
