People often start a Community Interest Company because they want to make a difference.

But passion alone cannot keep an organisation financially healthy.

Having served on voluntary-sector boards for more than 15 years, I understand that the numbers have to support the mission.

Trustees and directors need to understand where the money is coming from, what is restricted, what reserves are available and whether the organisation can afford its plans.

Clear financial information also makes board discussions and decisions much easier.

You concentrate on the difference you want to make. I can help you build stronger financial foundations underneath it.

Your business can be making a profit and still leave you wondering where all the money has gone.

That is why I encourage business owners to look at cash flow, not just profit.

Knowing what money is expected in and what needs to go out helps you plan ahead.

It can help you decide whether you can afford to invest, take on somebody to help, increase your own pay or whether you need to hold some money back.

Good accounts should help you make decisions, not simply tell you what happened last year.

That is where I see my role as both an accountant and a business adviser.

Maybe you started your business because you wanted more freedom.

More flexibility around your family. More control over your time. Or simply the chance to do work you enjoy.

Then the bookkeeping, tax, deadlines and paperwork arrived.

This is where the right accountancy support should give something back to you.

I take care of the numbers and help you understand what they are telling you, so you have more time and headspace to concentrate on your business.

My clients do not just get someone who prepares their accounts once a year.

They know they have my support when they need it.

That peace of mind is part of what you are investing in.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax started on 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords whose qualifying self-employment and property income was over £50,000 in 2024 to 2025.

The next group is getting closer.

If your qualifying income for 2025 to 2026 is over £30,000, you will need to use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax from 6 April 2027. HMRC says you will need compatible software, digital records and quarterly updates.

This does not need to mean more paperwork.

Getting organised now gives you time to put simple systems in place rather than rushing when the deadline arrives.

I can help you get set up and understand what you need to do, without making it complicated.

If this would help you, I am happy to chat.

If you are still keeping paper receipts in a drawer, you are not alone.

I help my clients use Dext and Xero so they can take a quick photo, upload it and move on.

No more piles of paper. No more searching for that one receipt when you need it.

Everything is stored digitally and is much easier to access.

It saves time, keeps you organised and makes dealing with your accounts much less stressful.

Fridays are a great time to pause and do a quick check-in with your business finances before the weekend.
It doesn’t need to take long, just a few minutes to keep things on track.
You could:
● Check your bank balance and recent transactions
● Review any outstanding invoices
● Note anything that needs attention next week
● Plan any payments or admin for Monday
This small routine helps you start the new week feeling more organised and in control.
And remember, you don’t have to do it all yourself. Support is always there if you need it.

One of the simplest ways to keep bookkeeping under control is to deal with receipts as you go, rather than letting them build up.
It only takes a minute or two, but it can save a lot of stress later on.
A simple approach might be:
● Snap and store receipts as soon as you get them
● Add a short note so you remember what they were for
● File them weekly so nothing gets missed
That’s it.
Small habits like this make a big difference over time and help keep everything organised without the overwhelm.
And if it still feels like too much to manage alongside running your business, getting support can really take the pressure off.

One of the easiest ways to make bookkeeping feel less overwhelming is to deal with it little and often.
Five or ten minutes regularly is usually much easier than facing months of paperwork all at once.
A simple routine might be:
Check your bank.Upload your receipts.Look at unpaid invoices.Make a note of anything you are unsure about.
That is it.
You do not need to spend hours doing it.
Keeping things moving little by little can make year end feel much calmer.
And if bookkeeping is not something you want to spend your time on, that is okay too.
There is nothing wrong with getting support so you can focus on the parts of your business you enjoy.

It is easy to focus on what is coming in and forget about everything going out.

Software. Insurance. Phone bills. Travel. Subscriptions. Training. Bank charges.

Small costs can add up quickly.

Knowing your regular business costs helps you make better decisions about pricing, spending and how much you need to earn each month.

You do not need a complicated spreadsheet.

Even a simple monthly review can help you feel much more in control.

The clearer your numbers are, the easier it becomes to plan ahead.

If you ever want help making sense of your business costs, I am always happy to explain.

When you start a business, there is suddenly so much to think about.

Tax. Bookkeeping. Invoices. Expenses. Deadlines.

It can feel like everyone else knows what they are doing and you are somehow behind.

You are not.

Most people learn as they go.

My role is to make the financial side feel clearer, so you know what you need to do now and what can wait.

You do not need to become an expert in accounts.

You just need simple systems, clear information and someone you can ask when you are unsure.

If you ever want something explained in plain English, I am happy to help.
