This week reminded me why I love being part of the accounting profession.

Bringing together AAT members to talk about AI and the future of accounting wasn’t just about technology. It was about people sharing ideas, asking questions and learning from one another.

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that none of us has all the answers. The best way to grow is to stay curious, keep learning and be willing to share what you know with others.

I’m grateful to everyone who joined the event, our fantastic panellists who gave up their time, and the volunteers who helped make it happen.

Here’s to continuing to learn, support one another and build a profession that is ready for the future.

What a fantastic evening! 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our AAT Derby Community event last night. It was wonderful to see so many AAT members coming together to learn, share ideas and reconnect.

Thank you for giving up your time and sharing your knowledge and experiences about AI and the future of accounting. The discussion was practical, engaging and gave us all plenty to think about.

I’d also like to thank every AAT member who attended, asked questions and contributed to the conversation. The event wouldn’t have been the same without your enthusiasm and willingness to get involved.

Restarting the Derby community has been something I’ve been passionate about, and seeing members supporting one another reminds me why local AAT communities matter so much.

This is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to seeing many more of you at future Derby community events.

✨ A fantastic day at the Sage offices in London.

It was wonderful to spend time with fellow accountants and bookkeepers, sharing ideas, learning from one another and making new connections.

A huge thank you to Natasha and the Sage team for being such welcoming hosts. The views of Tower Bridge were incredible, the goodie bag was very much appreciated, and I have to mention the amazing Sage chairs featuring football club badges. As someone from Derby, I felt quite proud spotting the Derby County badge amongst them. 😊

Days like this remind me how valuable our professional community is and how much we can learn from each other when we come together.

Thank you to everyone who made it such an enjoyable day. 💚

Looking forward to a lovely day at the Sage offices today with the amazing Natasha Everard and fellow bookkeepers and accountants.

One of the best parts of our profession is the opportunity to learn from each other, share experiences and build connections with like minded people.

I am looking forward to some great conversations, new ideas and catching up with familiar faces.

Yesterday I met a lady I had not seen since 2017.

Back then, I used to take her swimming. Then life got busy, our paths went different ways and Covid happened.

She told me she went on to learn to drive so she could continue swimming independently. She has now even set up a women’s swimming group and is helping other women gain confidence too.

I was genuinely touched and humbled. We often do not realise the impact a small act of support can have on someone else’s life.

It also reminded me why I love what I do through AFR Accountancy Services Ltd. Whether it is swimming or running a business, confidence and encouragement can help people become more independent and achieve things they never thought possible.

Sometimes the smallest actions create the biggest ripple effects.

I am incredibly excited to be part of the team helping relaunch AAT Derby after a number of years.

For me, this is more than just an event.

Some of my most valuable experiences as an AAT member came from attending Derby branch events. They gave me the opportunity to learn from others, build my confidence and connect with people who understood the challenges and opportunities of working in accountancy.

I have always hoped to see our local AAT community thriving again, so being involved in bringing events back to Derby is something I am genuinely passionate about.

That is why I am delighted to invite you to our first event.

This morning on my walk, I found myself reflecting on how much can change in a few years.

When I started AFR Accountancy Services Ltd, I simply wanted to help people feel more confident about their finances. I never imagined the wonderful clients, connections and opportunities that would come from taking that first step.

Today, I am feeling grateful.

Grateful for the clients who trust me with their businesses.

Grateful for the people who recommend me to their friends and family.

Grateful for the colleagues, fellow business owners and volunteers who continue to inspire me.

Running a business is not always easy. There are busy days, challenging days and days when you question yourself. But there are also moments that remind you why you started.

Today is one of those days.

Some days are about showing up.
Some days are about doing your best with the energy you have.
Some days are about resting and starting again tomorrow.

If today feels difficult, remember that progress is not always visible. Every small action, every lesson learned and every challenge overcome is helping you move forward.

Be kind to yourself.

You are doing better than you think.

Keep going. Your future self will thank you for not giving up.
