Top tips for taking on a new apprentice:
1. Complete the HMRC new starter form in full.
It's so important to complete all the sections of a new starter form, as missing information can cause a delay when setting them up with HMRC. Delays can result in the apprentice not being paid on time.

2. Choose the correct minimum wage rate and NI category.
Minimum wage rates still apply to apprentices. They are also entitled to holiday and sick pay so don't forget to track these too.

3. Check the details of existing apprentices.
It's useful to diarise birth dates as the rate of pay is affected by their age, as well as whether they have completed the first year of their apprenticeship.

Taking on an apprentice can be a great way to grow talent and skills your business needs. The payroll aspects don't have to cause you a headache. We work with lots of clients who successfully offer apprentice schemes, and we take care of paying them correctly.
