Why are pension annuities on the rise?

Planning your retirement income strategy is one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime. When it comes to taking an income from capital held within your pensions, you have a number of options: flexible access drawdown; or an annuity purchase.

Pension drawdown remains the most popular option among retirees, according to FCA data. In 2024/25, sales of drawdown policies were 349,992 compared to sales of annuities of 88,430.

However, recent market forces and regulatory changes have arguably made pension annuities more attractive and should perhaps warrant further consideration from more individuals nearing and in retirement.

High Wycombe-based Independent Financial Adviser, Douglas Sims, explains in our latest article.

“Houston, Integrity, comms check…
It’s so great to hear from Earth again."

As the Artemis II crew head for home after travelling further from Earth than any humans ever have, they suggested naming a newly spotted lunar crater Integrity, after their Orion spacecraft.

Personally, we think it’s a stellar choice - a name that reflects trust, teamwork and the courage to go further than anyone before.

At Integrity365, we may not be orbiting the moon, but we do believe in going further for our clients, and making the complex world of financial planning a bit more down to earth.

One of the crew say they have seen "sights that no human has ever seen" after travelling beyond the far side of the Moon.

Are younger generations now turning to the 'Bank of Nanny and Grandad'?

Following the boom in property and stock market prices in recent years, we are witnessing a shift from the ‘Bank of Mum and Dad’ to the ‘Bank of Nanny and Grandad’.

Whilst it has been reported that up to a third of millennial homeowners have been helped by their grandparents in purchasing a property, and this is not where the financial assistance stops.

As a grandparent, or parent, you may also be considering helping your grandchildren with their higher education costs.

In our latest article, Independent Financial Adviser Douglas Sims DipPFS discusses tax-efficient planning considerations for those looking to help grandchildren/children pay for university fees in 2026.

To save or to spend? Have you got a plan for this year's annual bonus?

As we enter the season of pay reviews and bonus awards, some people – perhaps for the first time – may have capital available to take positive action for their financial future with real agency.

Whilst a spending splurge can be immediately attractive – and a little indulgence is important – a lump sum bonus could be put to better, and more tax-efficient, use.

Independent Financial Adviser Sam Lane discusses some investment options and key considerations in our latest article.

From one newspaper job advert 30 years ago to an incredible career in financial planning…

Why is representation important in the financial planning industry?

This International Women’s Day, Independent Financial Advisers Esther Clemmey and Nicola Glass discuss their own career journeys and share insights for the next generation of IFAs in the latest episode of our Careers in Finance series.

In this clip, they explain how the industry has changed throughout their careers and why visibility is important. In an industry where women make up only around 18% of financial advisers, visibility and representation are vital. Showing the real career paths, role models, and opportunities within financial planning helps aspiring advisers see themselves in the profession – and gives clients greater choice when seeking financial advice.

Having pledged to the Women in Finance Charter, we are committed to continuing to be an inclusive and fair place to work, and do all we can to support career progression within the business.
