I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… accountants LOVE swag 😂

Accountex 2026 did not disappoint.

Some people came home with industry insights.

I came home with…

• A new mug ☕️
• Enough tote bags to do a weekly food shop to feed the 5,000 🛍️
• Multiple hats, that I am genuinely wearing in this heat 🥵
• THE cutest mini camper that now sits proudly on my desk 🥹

There’s just something so fun about seeing an industry people assume is “boring” have this much personality.

(There were also some genuinely brilliant conversations in between me collecting merch 😂💁🏻‍♀️)

Good people, good conversations, great tech… and elite swag 💖

Now be honest… which one are you stealing first? 👀

This year has been incredibly eye-opening.

People always talk about surrounding yourself with the right people. There’s that saying that you become the five people you spend the most time around… and I believe there’s a lot of truth in that.

Sometimes you choose people and they turn out not to be who they said they were. From a business perspective, you can talk about the financial impact, the stress, the disruption… but truthfully, sometimes it just hurts on a human level.

That said, I don’t want to dwell on that part.

What I do want to focus on is the people who are exactly who they say they are. The people who show up, follow through, support others, and genuinely want to see people do well.

One thing this industry has shown me is how incredibly supportive and tight-knit it can be. There are some truly brilliant people in it.

So if I haven’t said it in a while, thank you. To the people who’ve supported me, backed me, encouraged me, checked in on me, collaborated with me, and reminded me why I love what I do… you mean more to me than you realise.

Clearly winning at life here 🥇😂

If you’d told me a few years ago I’d be sat at Accountex interviewing people for , I genuinely don’t think I would’ve believed you.

This industry can feel very big when you’re finding your feet in it. So having moments where you stop and realise you’re no longer just watching the conversations… you’re part of them… is a pretty special feeling.

The best part wasn’t even the microphones or cameras. It was getting to spend time talking to people I massively respect, people who are brilliant at what they do, but also just really good humans.

Lots of laughs, lots of honest conversations, and a few moments where I thought, “how is this my life?”

Accountex, you’ve been brilliant 🎙️

Accountex Day 1 ☀️

A day full of podcasts, fast conversations, catching up with old friends, meeting new people, and pretending my social battery isn’t hanging on by a thread.

There’s something very fun about putting this many accountants in one building. Lots of good ideas, lots of tech, lots of “quick chats” that last 45 minutes.

Now heading for Chinese food and drinks with everyone before somehow doing it all again tomorrow ✨

Really enjoyed being part of this Live discussion on AI in audit.

There’s a lot of noise around AI at the moment. A lot of big promises. A lot of fear too.

What made this conversation interesting was how balanced it was.

Not “AI will replace auditors.”
Not “AI should never be used.”

Just honest discussion around where it can genuinely support audit quality, where firms need to be cautious, and why professional judgement still matters enormously.

One of the biggest themes throughout the session was something I think many firms are feeling right now:

AI can absolutely help with the heavy lifting.
But the heavy thinking still sits with people.

Really interesting panel and some brilliant conversations around what the auditors of tomorrow might actually look like.

A little about me: Pilates is my non‑negotiable. Twice a week, mat and reformer, undoing years of sitting and hunching. It’s a reminder to stop, move, and look after myself properly because if I don’t, I’m no good to anyone else. Every now and then I think I can miss it and get away with it. I can’t, my back is very clear on that. A small reminder that looking after ourselves matters, especially when we spend our time looking after our businesses. Thanks to for keeping me going!

Gary and I were on …and it ended up being one of those conversations that just feels very real.

No big performance. No overcomplicating things. Just talking about what’s actually going on.

We got into things like the FRS changes, AI, software, all of it… but more importantly, what it looks like in practice.

The bit that stuck with me was realising how many of these changes aren’t small. They’re the kind of shifts that will affect how we explain things to clients, how we do the work, and how much time it all takes behind the scenes.

If you’re in practice, or even just trying to keep up with everything that’s changing, I think you’ll get something from this.

I was speaking to a training provider recently who works with AAT, ACCA and CIMA students. They’re already encouraging the use of AI tools like Claude as part of learning.

Not as a bonus skill but as something that is expected…That says a lot.

The tasks that used to take hours… manual processing, first drafts, pulling data together, they’re starting to move. Not necessarily disappearing, but changing how they are done.

Soon, the “manual” parts of the job won’t be manual at all. They’ll be AI-assisted, AI-checked, AI-supported. Which means the real value will shift to somewhere else.

🫂 Understanding
🗣️ Interpreting
👥 Advising

It’s an interesting moment for the profession. Not something to be wary of, but something to lean into. The firms that adapt early won’t just be quicker. They’ll be better.

I was on the No Accounting for Tech podcast with Aaron Patrick for AccountingWEB at Finance, Accounting & Bookkeeping Show… and it was a really interesting conversation.

If you’re running a firm right now, or even just trying to stay on top of your numbers, you’ve probably noticed how much noise there is around software.

A lot of “AI this” and “AI that”. Most of it sounds great… until you actually try and use it.

One of the things I said on the podcast was how interesting it is to see audit starting to shift.

Caseware is doing some really interesting things on that side. Proper data analytics, AI looking at disclosures, flagging anomalies. It’s the first time in a while audit tech has made me stop and pay attention.

I also talked about how ChatGPT was the first tool I used. I find it’s a great support tool for communication. I’m a numbers person, writing isn’t naturally my thing, so having something that helps me structure and draft things properly has made a big difference. It means clients get clearer, more thought-through responses instead of rushed replies.

Fireflies.ai came up as well. A lot of our audits are remote, and we need to keep a clear record of conversations, email trails and decisions. Having meeting transcripts and recordings captured properly without relying on notes makes the whole process much more robust. It also means nothing gets missed, which matters more than people realise.

We also touched on tools like Apron with William pulling documents out of email chains. Clients have invoices everywhere, so anything that reduces the back-and-forth speeds things up for everyone involved.

Even improvements to things like QuickBooks bank feeds are making a difference day to day, which is easy to overlook but adds up quickly.

We kept coming back to the same thing… it’s not about one big piece of software changing everything. It’s the smaller improvements that add up to make things clearer, quicker and easier to manage.

I’m really interested to see how all the softwares develop over the next year, especially if the focus stays on tools that genuinely make things easier for firms and their clients.
