The first MTD for Income Tax quarterly update deadline is tomorrow, 7 August.

If the rules apply to you and you have not submitted, check the position today. Last-minute help may still be possible, but an accountant will need to understand your sign-up, software and record-keeping position first.

Five MTD checks to make before 7 August:

1. Does MTD for Income Tax apply to you?
2. Have you completed the HMRC sign-up?
3. Is the correct income source connected?
4. Are your digital records up to date for the first quarter?
5. Has your compatible software been authorised to submit?

If one of those answers is 'I don't know', deal with it now. We have set out the practical steps here: https://www.taylorrobertsaccountants.com/news/blog/archive/article/2026/August/mtd-first-quarterly-update-due-7-august-2026-what-to-do-if-you-are-not-ready

Contact Taylor Roberts privately with 'MTD HELP' and tell us whether you are self-employed, a landlord or both, what software you use and whether your records are up to date.

We will help establish what is outstanding and what can realistically be done. Urgent work is subject to capacity, complete information and our normal onboarding checks.

📢 Companies House filing changes delayed until April 2028

The UK government has confirmed that planned reforms to Companies House account filing requirements for small companies will now take effect from April 2028 instead of April 2027.

The changes, introduced under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, are designed to improve transparency and help combat economic crime.

Key changes include:

• Small companies will need to file a Profit & Loss account.
• Directors’ reports will be required unless an exemption applies.
• Micro-entities must file both a Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss account.
• Abridged and filleted accounts will no longer be available.
• Companies will need to file accounts using approved commercial software.

Businesses will still have the option to prevent their Profit & Loss account from being published on the public register, although the information will remain accessible to HMRC, Companies House and law enforcement agencies.

While implementation has been delayed, businesses should use this additional time to ensure their accounting systems are ready for software-only filing requirements.

If you'd like to discuss how these changes may affect your company, please contact us.
