🇬🇧 UK markets had a slightly calmer week, with expectations for further Bank of England rate rises easing after softer economic data.
🛢️ Oil prices continued to swing as investors kept a close eye on ongoing tensions in the Middle East and disruption around the Strait of Hormuz.
🇺🇸 US markets moved higher once again, driven largely by continued excitement around AI, technology and strong company earnings.
🌐 Investor sentiment remains broadly positive, though markets are becoming increasingly selective around valuations and future growth expectations

The past week marked Dementia Action Week, an annual awareness campaign led by the charity Alzheimer’s Society, which aims to bring people and organisations together to act on dementia.

There are almost one million people in the UK living with dementia, although one in three don’t have a formal diagnosis, according to Alzheimer’s Society. And the number is expected to soar to 1.4 million by 2040.

In recognition of Dementia Action Week, we look at how a lasting power of attorney (LPA) can help ensure your wishes are understood if you’re unable to make decisions yourself.

🔸 There are two types of lasting power of attorney (LPAs) in England and Wales: health and welfare, and property and financial affairs.

🔸 An LPA must be lodged with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) before they are valid and can be used. This can take up to 10 weeks.

🔸 Different power of attorney arrangements may be relevant depending on where you live in the UK.

A lot of people view investing as a negative, and it makes sense. Watching values rise and fall over the short term can feel uncomfortable.

That step into the unknown can be a big one, however investing isn’t negative… it just works differently.

Savings for example, gives stability; investing provides growth potential.

For your long-term goals, like retirement, market volatility is completely normal. Investing is all about giving your money a chance to grow over the years.
