From next, any unused pension fund left when you die will be counted as part of your estate - which means it could now be liable for Inheritance Tax.
That’s a big shift
Up to now, pensions have often sat outside your estate for inheritance tax purposes, but that’s changing and it might mean a rethink for some families.
It doesn’t mean panic but it does mean planning.
You might want to:
✅ Check who’s due to inherit your pension
✅ Ensure you have records of all your pensions
✅ Think about the best way to draw your income going forward
At Forward Plan, we’ve always said your pension isn’t just about retirement - its part of your whole financial plan, I've always said pensions are primarily for retirement income.
If you’d like to talk through how this might affect you and your family, I’m here.
