Wirral Mencap is a local independent charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, as well as their families and carers, on the Wirral. It is often assumed that, as a ‘Mencap’ group, the charity is well-resourced. However, we are in fact completely independent. We raise all our own funds and are governed by local people. We are affiliated to The Royal Mencap Society solely by way of our mission.

Wirral Mencap provides opportunities and support that reduce isolation, provide information and advice, and enhance quality of life for people with learning disabilities in the local area. We also offer a wide range of courses, from the Great Friendship Course to Money Skills and much more.

GRANT Announcement

2026/27 - New call for applications under the Town Centre Grant
Conwy County Borough Council is launching a further round of funding under the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Town Centre Grant by offering grants to support improvements to the external appearance of commercial properties, regeneration, and the overall visual impact of the town centre.

The scheme offers funding of up to 70% on eligible capital expenditure for projects with awards offered from £3,000 up to £15,000.

Following confirmation of award all offers will need to have been accepted and have drawn down funds no later than 26 February 2027.

Did you know SSP is changing from 6th April 2026? 🤯

What's changing? ✍️

• Removal of Waiting Days: SSP will be payable from the first full day of sickness absence. The current three-day "waiting period" where workers are unpaid is being abolished.
• Removal of the Lower Earnings Limit (LEL): All eligible employees will qualify for SSP regardless of how much they earn. Previously, workers had to earn at least £125 per week to be eligible.
• Revised Calculation Method: For lower earners, SSP will be calculated as 80% of their average weekly earnings or the statutory flat rate, whichever is lower. Higher earners will continue to receive the flat rate.
• New Statutory Rate: The flat weekly rate is set to rise to £123.25 (subject to final approval) for the 2026/27 tax year.
