We made the decision to take a week out of the business, to properly step back from the day-to-day and focus on something we believe matters just as much as submitting VAT returns and reconciling bank accounts…
Investing in our people.
We invited Ros Hodgson in to spend the week with us, bringing structured, hands-on training to our newest apprentice hires. Rather than picking things up piecemeal as they went, they had dedicated time to build real technical skills, ask questions, make mistakes safely, and grow their confidence with someone experienced guiding them through it.
It's the kind of investment that doesn't always show up overnight, but pays off for years.
On Friday, we were joined by our wider team of bookkeepers for a day dedicated entirely to resetting our standards as a business ,pausing, comparing notes, and making sure we're all aligned on what we're really working towards.
We hold ourselves to a gold standard, not because we've got it all figured out, but because our clients deserve nothing less.
Friday was about making sure every single person on the team knows exactly what that standard looks like, and feels supported to reach it.
What struck us most this week?
The power of in person connection.
Because at the heart of it, that's what this week was about…
People developing people.
It was our apprentices soaking up everything Ros could teach them.
It was our most experienced bookkeepers swapping stories and lessons learned with each other, sharing experiences across the board rather than working in silos.
It was colleagues who'd only ever spoken over a screen finally getting to know one another face to face.
Everyone walked away more joined up, more aligned as a business, and reminded of why we do this work in the first place.
Grateful for a team that shows up like this.
